I've been across the border many times. I've only had a problem once and that was because I put the wrong trailer # on my paperwork. I've gone through VACIS (x-ray) a few times with no problems. I've crossed at just about every border crossing between Champlain NY and Detroit MI. I've played 20 Questions with the Customs Officers and answered their questions politely.

I've never encountered rude people (outside of Customs). Most people are pretty nice to you when they find out you're American and in Quebec the security I've talked to at deliveries have been incredibly polite. You don't find that too often down in the US.

For me I enjoy the opportunity to visit another country, see how things are similar to the US, see how things are different. Read the local newspaper to find out what issues they are having. Try new foods. See new sights.

So I'm not here to criticize your decision, I'm just curious what your personal reasons are for refusing to go to Canada.

It's not the country, its the fact the planners leave me up there for up to 3 days looking for something, or to fix their screwups. I swear, sometimes they make the planet of the apes look like Harvard...

I was offered a load to BC a few weeks ago and to Winnipeg a little while ago, however I talked to the Canada coordinator at my terminal about going up there with my dog, he said can't do it. So I turn down those loads. I wouldn't mind going, but like the other guy said, I worry about them getting me a load back down.

The coordinator dude processes the FAST applications for the new drivers coming into orientation. I never got my FAST card but I do have a passport and TWIC.
