I just quit YRC a month ago because of $600 paychecks every week for a union yard jockey position where I take home $800 a week and I'm home everyday. The other drivers that work here are averaging about $80,000 a year and home everyday. As soon as the yard jockey gets back from his medical leave I'm going to switch over to driving at a higher rate of pay and things will be much better.

Comes down to LOCATION, where you are (and pure chance luck?) . . .

I work for a family owned company that is always HIRING and am home every night (basically 6:30 to 5:30 with weekends OFF / alternate half day Saturdays worked) Get paid by the hour (including 'logged' 30 minute breaks) with OT over 40hrs and medical/dental to boot.

Company has own roadservice / maintenance shop so equipment is always in PERFECT condition a huge PLUS for sure!!! Drive a 2006 Peterbilt conventional with one of the last great non "EPA" ACERT C13 CAT!! You can keep yer brand new DEF KW / Western Star 'automatics" owner knows I'll be upset if he ever sells my truck!!

A lot of it does come down to location. If you are willing to relocate that opens up a lot of opportunities. That's what I did.

Who pays that bad? I'm a local guy and I'm home every night, went local right out of school and from the pay people list here I've been making more than many OTR drivers since day 1 out of school. Most LTL's and Local positions around here start people in the range of $18-$21/hr and after a couple years you move up to around $24 which specialized guys going over that. Then figure in OT which most companies around here pay. Must be your part of the country.

What trucking company company do you work for? Many millions of truck drivers would love to have a job as you have described.

MORE POWER TO YOU! God bless you and your family!

God bless every American and their families! God bless the U.S.A.!

A lot of times it's not always the amount you make its the work some guys do for the check you make. If one makes a 800 a week home every night to his family running around 1500 miles a week. And the next guy makes 1200 only home on weekends running 2500 to 3000 miles a week. Who really made the most?
