Will an accident that wasn't my fault affect future employment opportunities?

    Paranoid?

With people who run others over and some who are a constant threat on the road, they still get jobs.

I wouldn't worry about a thing, it isn't your fault as you describe and you employment record shouldn't reflect it.

If you are asked about this in the future, explain you followed what you thought was proper procedure, you stopped to prevent your vehicle from sliding back into another vehicle or off the road.

First off, why did the bus stall? If i was your future employer I'd want to know. Was it driver error in the fact that you did not add fuel additive on a cold day, or was it something you should have found on your pretrip? Did the engine just die or was it running poor all day? I dont know where you were, but stopping on the road without pulling over is generally a last resort. If you do stop in a travel lane on a 2 lane road, you should be outside helping to direct traffic around you vehicle. (assuming visibility is ok and you wont have a high risk of being hit) Basically, yes it is the plow driver's fault, but you will have some blame for stopping in the middle of the road. Did you have your 2 safety cones out? Were your hazards on?

This probaly wont go on your CSA as long as no one was hurt. Minor accidents dont always make it there. It will make you PIP and/or MVR though. get a police report showing your not at fault so if i future employer asks you can show them.

You're good. You did all the right things and so sid the plow driver (besides hitting you!) you'll be ok. Stay safe out there.

The only way I see this as a problem is if you omit it on future applications. You must list all accidents regardless of fault within an apps specified time frame. Failure to is falsification and grounds to not hire or even worse, fire after being hired.

You are good to go and nothing to worry about, just get and keep a copy of your accident report and as another poster here said, make sure not to hide it on your next app. And for good measure give a copy of your report along with your application...

The plow driver even admitted he was at fault and the officer said you don't have anything to worry about.Everyone has accidents out there and a lot of times it's the other persons fault. You can't control what other people do.Very much doubt nothing will happen on your end.Since you are part of the transportation industry,I imagine buses come equipped with triangles, next time put them out.

Thanks for all of the replies guys.

The fact that I still have to list the accident on applications regardless of whether it was my fault or not kind of sucks. To me that seems like the kind of thing that could give someone an advantage over you for a job opening.

    You, are correct.

If you were applying for a top tier job/position,

it could have a negative effect.

I understand from your story that you had the parking brake on? So how do you have anything to do with an accident. Oh, you bus stalled and you applied the brake to keep from rolling back down the hill. You were still on the road? If so then a safety committee could rule that as Preventable. A Preventable accident can cause you problems. That is the world we live in. If there is anything we can do to prevent an accident, even if we are not at fault, we are considered to have erred. If however there is no safety committee there will be no problem and all you have to do on your applications is to reported the date of the accident and tell them you were struck by a snow plow. I had a car slide through an intersection and struck my tandems. She could not stop because of the ice. No problem to me. You would be in the same boat.

    Good luck and stay safe.
