Wiper motor replacement fld120

I helped a friend fix his Volvo. He had it clocked wrong. I thought mine was tough. Volvo’s are a real PITA. Took Us a couple hrs to get it set right. Almost everything’s easier to fix on a Freightliner. That’s what I like best about mine.

 

Hopefully one of you can help me. Ever since I replaced the motor something was off and the linkage was rubbing the air intake. I ordered all new everything as all the ball sockets were falling apart. Now I can’t get the darn thing connected properly. It binds up. I’m beyond frustrated as I have been at this for HOURS. My toes are frozen and I’m ready to kill

Did you buy the motor and transmission all as one unit. That's easier to install. It's been a couple years since I've done it.
I can pop my hood tomorrow and look.

 

Well……………..I am embarrassed although while typing my first reply to you it got me thinking and i figured it out. I put the passenger side on wrong. I thought the range was too short and it was. Thats why the motor was binding and why it’s hitting everything. I ran outside in my underwear and grabbed the old one and took measurements. The bolt holes line up and down or sideways. I must have put it on wrong last time, which I don’t remember removing it at all. And I installed new one same way.

Man I am relieved and angry LOL. I battled this for HOURS. Even had the girlfriend out five times to run the knob while I sat and stared aimlessly at the simple set up.

It’s a good thing I’m not rebuilding an engine. Holy crap.

 

These are the lessons we remember for life. Next time you have to do it in a parking lot in a snow storm, you can do it quicker.
I try to take pictures of everything I need to fix, before I start. They really help in reassembly.
Good to hear you got it fixed.

 

Got the bracket swapped around and OMG I have nice, smooth fully functioning wipers that clean the entire windshield. I will post part numbers later and attach the pdf with every piece to the system.

I never thought they would ever work as smooth as they do now. I didn’t realize just how worn out everything was. It’s worth the investment.
