They are large but Coyote is larger by almost twice the size.
I would be interested in seeing what regulations you are referring to?

The mythical double brokering regulation that no one seems to be able to give a number for.
TQL does call us 4-5 times a week to see if we will co-broker them some of our loads. One of them that calls always implies that they have their "own" trucks.BigBadBill and mp4694330 Thank this. -

This is from several years back but it's a pretty good read. If you are in to that sort of thing. http://www.transportationlaw.net/articles/may03article.html

I remember the article. More about double brokering and the second one never paying the carrier.
-
Another interesting article. There may not be a specific regulation but apparently there are other laws to be broken i.e., larceny by fraud. http://www.clservicesinc.com/prison-fine-for-double-brokering/

That's all when it is done to defraud someone. Most double brokering is not done for that purpose.
BigBadBill Thanks this. -
If you are talking with brokers and 3PL's they use 2 terms - double brokering and co-brokering. Double brokering is more what people are talking about being illegal. It is when a broker takes a load indicating they are putting it on their equipment and then turn around and broker it to a different carrier. What makes this "illegal" is when the contract doesn't allow the freight to be brokered. That would be the fraud that Hank is talking about.
Now co-brokering is legal. If Broker A enters into an agreement with TQL to have TQL broker their freight that is completely legal. Nothing in the regulations state that one broker can't contract with another broker to arrange transportation of freight.
What most believe is that there is some regulation keeping broker A and broker B from working together to cover freight. -
BigBadBill Thanks this.

The cases that keep being brought up are criminal cases involving fraud, not civil cases involving contract disputes. I'm sure most broker contracts are close to ours, prohibits double brokering and if they do we reserve the right to pay the carrier of record.
BigBadBill Thanks this.
