I will start logging off duty and only use sleeper berth duty status when doing a split. In those situations, I am going to the bunk and sleeping.
Written up for being in the shower while logged as sleeper berth.

Unless you need split I would just do off duty, however I would of told them you woke up and went in to use the restroom only and make no mention of the shower, sometimes the less info the bean counters have the better off they are

I have made this comment many times in the past. Mostly with regard to PC moves. There are no Federal or State DOT cops hiding behind trees really to jump out and arrest a driver for a HOS violation. This may actually surprise some of you, but the FMCSA expects to see them from time to time. When I was an active driver I could not go much more than 4 to 6 months without busting one of my clocks. Going on and admitting to a clock bust is MUCH better than filing a false log even with today's E-logs.
While what I just wrote seems off-topic, it is important to remember what the FMCSA want's to see when they do an audit and find something like a HOS violation. They want to see what the carrier did afterward. In fact, if they see enough violations with no carrier response they have been known to assess civil fines against the carrier. As a driver, you may never see this aspect of a HOS violation. So, what may seem like a BS action by a carrier is because of how the FMCSA can be.
I can't remember the year, but some time ago a Tour Bus went off the highway in Texas (I think) and hit a bridge support structure. Many people got killed. I heard within days FMCSA safety auditors were at that tour bus headquarters going through everything. This possibility is why carriers have to stay on top of these things.Boondock, Another Canadian driver, Kyle G. and 2 others Thank this. -

In my job EVERYTHING that isn't actual driving is on duty.
Try that and see how the like rescheduling every single delivery and pick up..
Make sure all communications are cc'ed to the safety directorProfessionalNoticer, Boondock, Another Canadian driver and 2 others Thank this. -
No ones mentioned my edits to me yet and I’ve been getting inspected every other month this year as well. I’d be wary of PC use, our policy is pretty liberal, but if you’re not sure, better to check with log audit, clean up and certify logs before calling them if you do.
If you follow policy and the law, you’ve got nothing to fear from them or safety, I call them as needed to quote what they say to dispatch.
edit: if you’re otr and feel run down, try dedicated.Last edited: Jul 22, 2022
