Morning X15 owners. Let's talk about what you guys are doing for your maintenance intervals ? Are you sticking to the standard plans or going above and beyond when it calls for a DPF cleaning or Valve adjustment? What about shocks ? Lets hear your thoughts. Picking up my 2 new trucks tomorrow and looking to put together a plan for standard maintenance and looking for input!
Back a few years ago when the isx had camshaft issues many guys got burnt following Cummins valve adjustment schedule because warranty ran out before scheduled adjustment. The guys who cut schedule in half got cams done on warranty. Cummins only cares if schedule is good enough to make it through warranty period and is cheaper for megas who trade anyways.
Oil, oil filter, fuel filters, grease every 20 to 25,000 miles Air filter every 100,000 My first X15 I did the DPF bake, and overhead at 300k but it didn’t increase the fuel economy any. Also I ended up having a sensor go bad not long after which made me wonder if the whole thing stayed intact from factory if maybe it wouldn’t have happened. I now have 2 others that just broke 300k and I’m going to run them out to 500k and sell. If any lights come on then we’ll address at that point. They are amazing motors and the emissions is not bad at all compared to past years. I know people don’t change oil as often as me but I’ve had zero issues with 9 motors now so I’ll keep doing what I’m doing.
Oh, as for shocks I do them every time I change tires. So, about 150k on steers and 250k on drives. I also do an alignment each time as well.
Thanks for the advise. I was thinking of changing the oil ever 400-500 hours seeing as most of my work is using a PTO. I’ll keep in mind the DEF issue.
Every 10k to 15k oil change, oil and fuel filters. Air filter every 50 k because i do alot of offroading.. Ive changed all the emissions sensors on it including both nox sensors at 500k. All of the sensors were still painted red so they lasted that long. 620k miles and no problems with the engine and i run it really hard out west.
The cummins are in the heavy haul trucks so they get oil changes every 15 to 25k after an OA is returned. These trucks are regularly maintained by amortization of key parts.
