That is true; and I'm not saying that the path I took is easily repeated, and certainly wouldn't work for everyone. Just because it's possible, doesn't mean it's easy.

I was just adding my story to the chorus of others who didn't go the mega carrier route. There are too many people in this business who think that's the only way.

    Alaska76 Thanks this.

Well having done both, I certainly make that determination in favor of local. Being home, having a normal social life, getting paid overtime, making more money on less hours

OTR is incredibly hard. I had no real appreciation how hard until I did it. Now, I'm enjoying it a lot, but my circumstances and mindset are different than most. I would have cut my wrists doing this 25 years ago because of the lack of social life alone.
Still not sure how long I will stick with it either.
I know that lots of companies SAY xyz experience required, but will still hire with less. I would say if you can't really commit to the OTR lifestyle for a year, your better off taking more time to get hired and maybe making less initial money than trying to live a lifestyle you hate. Because OTR is not a job, its a lifestyle. You just happen to get paid for that lifestyle.
