    I didn't say it was necessarily right, just the way it goes. If Swift would have run me like I wanted, I'd probably still be with them. The way I see it, I put the ball in their court and they didn't seem to be able to work things out. I was willing to work with them but they needed to understand I was not going to be run that way often, which is what they chose to do.

    Look I didn't mean for this thread to turn into a Jew bashing thread lol. There's no doubt they have a lot of power but I was looking for more insight into why trucking companies run like they do. For example, West Brothers has a yard not far from me and they advertised a local gig. I called them and asked for details on the job because local sounds good to me.

    This is a daycab operation mainly where you take a load in GA or NC and a backhaul to the house. However, they threw in the caveat that occasionally they'll require you to run a load up to the NE area. WTF? How is that local? It's ridiculous.

    There's a lot of knowledgable truckers here but most of them are not all that knowledgable about why things run the way they do and how the biz is conducted. Would be nice to get some more insight from mgmt side too and I'm well aware this is a trucker forum.

    honey it all boils down to the terms of the contract, or what they're willing to do to keep the customer happy.

    there could be a couple of reasons why. if your local ga/nc shipper has a hot one to the ne that his road outfit (swift/schneider/etc.) can't cover, it then gets called in to local guy.


    or the sceanario might be that local shipper only has a couple loads a month going to the ne. that's not enough to warrant a contract with a swift/schneider, so what's he gonna do? turn a sale down because local trucking co. "doesn't want to go to the ne? now really.....how long do you think they'd be a house carrier?

    and no, i'm not managment, just a dumb truck driver who worked at a small family owned outfit who keep her ears open. ;)

    All I want from a gig is to have that area off limits for me with no pressure to ever go there again. Is that too much to ask?

    I appreciate it hand, I've applied with southeastern and haven't heard anything from them. I don't know anything about doubles and I don't have any endorsements. I guess I'll have to get hm and doubles if I want to hang around the southland.

    actually yes it is. you turn into a PIA for dispatch and a prima donna to all the other drivers. what are you.....12 hours away? close enough on a legal day to get here, 10 off, deliver and p/u a backhaul. no co. is going to turn that down.

    what happened up here to make you this adamant about never coming back? just curious, after all it's the same as driving any where else.
