There was a method to my madness. If the gas station called, and they discover me,
rather than my self identifying - and then showing the fuel volume captured and calculating the loss,
To prove it was under the 5 gallon EPA reportable spill guidelines,
I think it could have gone much differently for me,
like being charged as a eco-terrorist spiller
or even as her Sargent said over the phone - a hit and run.
Yes, its a curb, that's what I said,
    but technically, it would apply.
But I ran to stop it, cause I knew I could, not to hide in the woods.

Actually, Everyone's replies or comments was not what I expected - I thought it would be a pile on
free for all, murder by death, and I got one "dumb aze" Thanks!

On a side note, since you handled it yourself, you can still claim "XXXXXX accident free miles"!

I think the reason nobody is giving you too hard of a time is you've been around here a while. You're not a one post wonder where they blame everyone but themselves for the incident. That and the fact you thought out a quick solution to what could have been a huge problem.

It’s because every last one of us has done something like that. I left a cap off a full tank once for 150 miles between Corpus Christi and home. Had a couple of trucks pass me slowly and look but didn’t say anything on radio or point. I’m pretty sure their windsheilds were getting oiled.
A couple months ago I pulled the cap off to check level after I parked one morning at the warehouse. Walked off without putting it back on and not thinking about it. It sat all day with cap off. Rained a few times. Drove home 20 miles and go over 2 RR crossings with it off. 2 hours after I get home I walk by truck and see cap hanging from the chain scratching up my polished tank. It has always been the driverside tank were I should have noticed it. Lol!
I’ve got a huge dent in the bottom of my left hand tank ( almost flattened the bottom) that to this day I cannot explain how it got there.

We tend to only pile it on when the poster starts blaming everyone for their problems but the person who created them. I.e. the poster.

When it's more a cautionary tale like yours, and the poster admits to messing up, we tend to joke and commiserate. After all most of us know there are times when we are seconds away from being in your shoes.

And what is the average driver to do? Other than call dispatch?
They most likely are not a mile from home to fix the problem.

rolls canardly did a great job for the situation he was in.

    That one's easy.
    Meteor strike.

Dude, remember that sharp turn you took when you heard the 10 to 15 seconds of horrible scraping?
Or were you driving with Black Oak Arkansas turned up to 11?
