I've heard stories like that. This mentor was telling me his student was so bad that he called to find out what to do, Swift said drop him at Sapps Salt Lake City, the fuel desk will have his final paycheck there for him-- do not bring him to the terminal.
So the mentor pulled into the fuel aisle and told the student to go check with the fuel desk if some paperwork were there for him. When student was out of sight, mentor threw student's duffel bags and bedding out the window and drove down to the terminal. Few minutes later student was blowing up his phone with death threats.

Well I didn't have it that bad but I did have to train someone in my daycab. He was supposed to be my learning the route as a backup we left the yard with him in the passenger seat as the drug on and on. I learned all kinds of things like he was a 23 year truck driver veteran and he has driven all types of vehicles. He eventually took over driving grinding every gear running all over the road argued with me that we weren't in a 10 speed when we were. The final straw was when he tried to back the truck up at stop and ended up jack knifed in the parking lot. I took over driving and he hasn't been back on my truck.

One of the the reasons I don't train ... I do pretty good scaring myself, I don't need any help.

Interesting post! I have been in cars with people that I wanted to bail on, so I guess trucking is no different.

Pulled a couple of rookie cops out from behind the wheel of my cruiser while training them. Threw a few out on the driving track and made them walk back to the skid pad then refuse to let them drive again, they didnt understand why I was yelling STOP STOP STOP TURN TURN TURN!!!

Touche' MysticHZ. This is exactly why I don't see myself as a mentor...ever.

My mentor was an amazing guy. He has agreed to take me back out with him when I come back to Swift in January. Taught me so much and always took time to answer my questions once I went solo. His name is Hurley Snell and he is a lease op out of the Decatur terminal. You could not ask for a better mentor or human being in general.
