If history tells us anything, in 1 year there may be two of you left out of that class still in this business for whatever reason(s). Have a backup plan.

Unfortunately that statement is soo true. Within the first year the newbie finds out that the million dollar a year job the newspaper ad talk about was a lie. They realize they are not home to visit family and friends as much as they want. They can't legally drink or toke when ever they would like. And all the comradre that was here years ago has fallen by the wayside with all the new rules and regulations dictating your entire time out here.
The first year is always the hardest especially if your working to pay off that CDL school that really didn't teach you anything. You'll hear lots of stories about those home every night jobs that pay big $$$ also, but in reality if you do actually find one there are always 3 drivers with more experience already in line for it.
Stay put, whereever you are. Things do get better with time. Including the pay and respect you'll earn.

    Big Don Thanks this.

12 to 18 months before a new direction or decision is made. An ernest effort will be given.

Well said. Its funny too if you watch the "Questions From New Drivers" section here. Every week how many threads are started about "Can I just go to a state school and get a local job and avoid the whole CDL mill megacarrier contract?" Everybody wants all the bells and whistles on 0% interest with no down payment these days it seems.

this is funny...I only drove for 4 months, at USA and found a better driving job, elsewhere! The problem seems to lie with, from all my friends from truck driving school, "luck of the draw". Out of the 40 guys/girls I met at CDL school only 3 of us are still in it. 1 is getting ROYALLY screwed by Arnold and is now gonna bite the bullet and go back to USA, again. Only for his resume! He is starting out, again, at 34 cpm...but doesn't like the fact that he will bust 3000 miles per week and only take home around $600-$650. I ran 2345 last week and brought home around $750(after taxes). But, my company is REALLY PICKY over their drivers. I just always kept my "nose clean". There are GREAT driving jobs out there...but alot of people just don't have the "record"(PAST) to cut these jobs! Sure, I get home every weekend and hang out with the wife and little dude...but not ALOT of people are willing to be on the road for 3-4 weeks at a time. I liked it, and I hated it. I, at least, found the perfect balance in the "driving industry". I can go out for a week, get home for 34-48, still be with my wife, son, and family.....and go back out. I can go out for 2 weeks if I want....but that's kinda "testy" when on elogs. Some weeks you can recap all day long...some weeks you're so darn busy you run outta your 70 before saturday, starting on a monday!
Btw, J_Frog...you've only been driving for 6 years...wasn't it YOU that said a trainer should have NO LESS than 10 years experience to be a trainer? What are you doing training...you still have another 4 years to go.....oh yeah....those solo paychecks at USA must've been that bad! ;)

No dinky, if you go back to the post I think you are referring to you will find I did not say anything like that. Someone else said they thought 10 years ought to be a requirement. I said I wish they would make it that because then they would have to give us all a raise because there would be not enough wet behind the ears kids to train. I didn't start training until after 3 years and it definitly wasn't for the money. I was tired of students tearing up equipment and not being able to do simple backing manuevers because they were not being trained properly. I haven't taken a student in 3 weeks because the last one gave me his flu before I put him off the truck and I'm not completely ready to deal with another student yet. At least not health wise. BUT, my checks are not that much smaller, and still a lot larger than yours. I,m glad you and Beeznduck are happy at Epes, I talked to them awhile back but didn't hear much that I liked.

WOW! gotta go 3rd grade and make up names! hahaha I know you wouldn't like EPES...probably because they wouldn't hire you in the first place! And who is Beeznduck? No such name on our thread. Of course your paychecks are more than mine, because you, *cough, cough* train. ALL TRAINERS MAKE MORE THAN SOLO GUYS, DUH!!!!!!!!! But go solo, and see if your checks equal what you would make here. WOULDN'T HAPPEN! Especially since we now have an extra .10 a loaded mile going anywhere above the MD/PA line! Can't get that at USA! Also how's that NON MATCHING 401K working out! You wanna call me dicky...I'll be a dicky right back...oh well...my bad! But in all fairness, I made my point, BEFORE I mentioned you!
