This company used to be good. Up until the purchase by Knight/Swift. Now it’s trash. Even long time drivers are leaving. My personal experience is that they try to drag your name through the mud to keep you from getting another job-not once, but twice. Do NOT work here.

Pros

None anymore

Cons

Lies, low pay

I seen the reviews and was skeptical. But after being here for 5 months I love it. DM could be a little bit more reachable at times, but he’s very friendly and I get what I ask for. If you do your job and are respectful you’ll get what you give. I’m typically a friendly person so I get along with everyone. But if something isn’t right I will let it be known. I’ve had to have words with my DM but that’s to be expected. He takes care of me and I do my job. He doesn’t harass me and I’m not micromanaged.

Pros

Pay equipment hometime miles

Cons

Lack of communication at times

Poor Management.....when you never been a driver yourself you are clueless of what drivers go through daily. They claim to operate 24/7. However, their dispatchers are non reachable all day. I was put out is service for an ELD that I was being charged for weekly through my lease purchase. After going through a Level 3 Inspection at a Weight Station. A State Trooper informed me of this device not being in compliance of the 2019 Federal DOT Laws. I was not put Out Of Service for logging violation but for Abilene not being in compliance with this law. After contacting management they wanted to hear from the State Trooper themselves about the ELD. The Trooper informed them as well of this violation. Management wanted me to go against the Trooper and continue to drive on I-95 South. Which would have me crossing two other Weight Stations to return the truck. Being that I told them I was resigning that day. After I refused to illegally drive the truck as management wanted. They had someone else retrieve the truck. If anything shows up on my DAC Report about abandonment; they will be hearing from my lawyer. I do have all paperwork of the INSPECTION!!!! As do Abilene.

Pros

One male dispatcher who name begins with R and Senior Receptionist with a Southern drawl. She’s a Gem.

Cons

Very low miles per week for African-American drivers.

Driving I-77 south and drivers are way over speed and cutting in and out of lanes. Create d dangerous conditions for others driving the same route.

Pros

Can not think of anything good from today’s experience.

Cons

Drivers going way too fast in Virginia hills.

I hired on with Abilene in June of this year. So far, they have treated me well. They have good equipment and all the trucks have auto shift transmissions. They have mostly Volvo VNL780s as well as a few Macks some Kenworths , Freightliners and Petes. So far, I like it here.

Abilene Experience

I thought I would add my experience with Abilene Motor Express so far...I would honestly say that 80% of the time I am pleased. The company has top notch newer trucks and trailers. (I drive a 2013 Volvo 780)

I average over 3k miles per week and they usually get me home on the day I request home time. I can stay out 1, 2, 3 weeks or more. It's up to me. I usually stay out 3 weeks and go home for 2 days...paid bi-weekly. PrePass/EZPASS.

I like the people here for the most part. The company is big enough to play in the big game but it is small enough that your not a number. Communication is my biggest hurdle with dispatch, but it is steadily improving. They always have freight needing delivered. A lot of NorthEast ( extra 10 cents/mi) and Midwest. Few dedicated runs and they are guarded by that driver! I primary run as far west as Colorado/Texas/Minnesota as a solo OTR.

I am currently looking to find a driver to team with.

Well I will update as I go along the Abilene journey...

Abilene Motor Express Training

I can tell you that Abilene has a great training program, and freight to match almost anyone to their home anywhere... Some of the other Abilene drivers can vouch for my expertise in this field... I would recommend Abilene to anyone starting out. If you can build a strong relationship with your trainer, and driver manager, the community and family environment will ensure your success.
