Great place to start. You can learn the ropes to being an O/O. It’s slow enough to to see if this is right for you. Very laid back Dispatch system. It’s definitely a no hurry environment. Great for retired people that just want to run part time.

Pros

Can get driving experience here and Hazmat endorsement here.

Cons

Pay is low, one to two loads a week at best. Better have additional income if you work here.

Acme Truck Line, Inc.

I'm hired on with Acme Truck Line. I finished the 2 day orientation yesterday. They bought us lunch at a great little cafe just down the road. Orientation was pretty basic, the usual videos, discussions, and tests. I think I'll like it here. Its a 100% O/O or small fleet lease company. The truck owner told me I'll be an O/O without the expenses. I run the truck like it's mine. As long as the truck covers the loads that it's dispatched on I won't hear from him. Acme will dispatch my loads going out and the owner, who is an agent for Landstar will cover my backhauls. The company offers some great investment oppurtunities. Anyone that is interested in this company should definately take a look. I'm just getting started here but I know several people with trucks leased to them that are very happy. I'm planning on driving for this owner awhile and learning the ropes then trying my hand at buying a truck and leasing it on with them.

ACME in Von Ormy Question - Got Info?

Q: I am in the hiring process with Acme Drive Away in Von Ormy, TX. Does anyone have any experience or information about Acme - San Antonio Drive Away?
Specifically, the benefits, hours (number of hours per week), pay (yearly), duties, the quality of the equipment, how they treat their drivers, employee moral/turnover rate, etc, etc?

A: Pay ranges anywhere from 19% to 30% TTT depending on what you agree with your owner/boss.

While a larger split TTT is always better for an O/O I think at least in the OKC terminal the 18 wheel flat bedders are doing quite fine. My brother is grossing about $8000 per week and is pretty happy with it. They also have a heavy haul division and they are doing much better than that.

I am leased on with them. I've been with them about 5 months now. I run mostly Pa, Oh and Wv which is my choice. Be patient with them there are good weeks a few bad weeks but as many outstanding weeks. I had a week last month that was better than my best week ever at the last company running 2 trucks there to my 1 here!

Job Updates!!!!

I run flatbed out of OKC. I started with ACME last year in May. Now we have half the trucks as last year. But this means we are BUSY. Right now the OKC terminal is looking for one more truck to pull a 48' flat and one or two hot shots.

It's all O/O. However "company" drivers like myself get approved by the company to drive an owner's truck. You are paid a percentage. Last month was my best month since starting, generating $28K to the truck.

About half my loads are local runs to and from rigs. About half are longer hauls to customer yards to Texas, Wyoming, ND, PA, and WV. For backhauls I use load boards.
