Honestly, Walbert Trucking is the worst trucking company I've ever experienced in over 20 years in the industry. Their CSA score is high due to worn out and poorly maintained equipment. Drivers will write up DOT violations (turn signals inop, bald tires, brakes, ABS fault lights) and the shop ignores it. Another issue is misleading/illegal driver pay for "local" drivers. They will tell you during the hiring process you'll be hourly and must use the time clock, but they will pay the "local" drivers by hiw ling their drive time takes from point A to B. They insist on drivers sending text messages when the leave/arrive at locations and playboys based on that. This essentially makes "local" drivers performing work off the clock. Work like drop-hook, waiting for loading/unloading, pretrip/post trip is not paid for. I use the phrase "local" because the job really isn't local. There are many times a "local" driver has to drive an old POS Volvo day cab from Glasgow KY to places like Dayton OH with 4 stops. It totals up to 635 miles in a day in a truck with not enough power to climb hills even when empty, no AC in the cab and rattles like any moment it's going to self destruct. Add to it they want you to be in Dayton OH before 0900 with 2 stops before it requires you to leave the terminal at 0300 - this after starting your day after 0800 and ending at 1700. Then there is the pay for OTR drivers. Currently (August 2019) Walbert Trucking pays OTR drivers 38 cents/mile - well below the industry. They offer $25 for getting a clean DOT inspection, but that is impossible because their trucks and trailers all have obvious safety issues that will prohibit even a clean Level II inspection. Their detention rate is also antiquated because they will pay $10/hr after 2 hours at a customer IF there was an appointment AND the broker is paying detention. Then there is their employee points system for evaluating performance. They give 1 point for being late even 5 minutes. Add all of that up and it might have been competitive pay 20 years ago, but in today's era, they offer very little to a quality driver and absolutely nothing to a driver with a low PSP score.
