I've been with Schneider off and on for a decade, both as a company driver and an owner op. They aren't the worst company in the country, and a lot of their management really do care about their drivers. The problem is that they also have taken the "throw it at the wall and see what sticks" approach to hiring drivers. Many drivers here do not perform pre-trip/post-trip inspections, which leads to a lot of busted equipment being left at shippers and receivers. I am a current Owner, and I never book back to back JIT runs because odds are, I'm gonna be down for a few hours at least repairing a trailer. On top of that, corporate safety is convinced they can educate the problem away, so many safety related programs, they make OSHA jealous. Don't get me started on the acronym fetish they have here. Really, though, that's my only major complaint. Most of the company is very respectful of drivers, and they do try to help where they can. On the O/O side, they don't exactly pay top dollar, but that is mitigated a bit by the Schneider buying power, huge discounts on parts, tires, permits and fees, plus a healthy discount (ranging from .25 to .50 cpg) on fuel from PFJ.
