So let's start with the bad. Tarp pay $25 per load. Only lumber tarps available. The terminal shops are very slow and they only fix what they consider necessary. Other drivers will try to steal your equipment, cause they're to lazy to make sure they have all they need before leaving a terminal. They will try to micromanage your time when you start. I had to explain to my DM that I've been driving longer then he has been dispatching and that all I need is an address, time and date, and pick up numbers I can handle the rest. Since then I'm pretty much left to do my job. Trucks are set on 5 min idle timer. The company claims it is attached to temp sensors and will stay running above 75 and below 55. Its a lie. It will only stay running above 90 or below 20. The cold is not an issue the trucks have auxiliary heaters. But if you're trying to get some sleep and it 80 outside with the sun out you have to hope for a breeze and open the windows. Any of you vets out there understand where this is going. The mileage pay starts at 32 for flatbed caps at 47. Vans have sliding pay scale. I do enjoy staying out and taking time off when I go to cool places, but I'm single and have no reason to go home outside of holidays. Dealing with breakdown is painless at night which is when I do most of my driving. During the day it takes hours to get a response and they usually forget to process verification through the vendors. On a positive note I've built a relationship with my DM and he knows he can trust me to make deliveries on time. So I seem to get better loads then most other drivers I meet with western. I honestly feel the biggest issue with this company is they're a known second chance company and they mainly hire retarded people that shouldn't be driving a car let alone a truck. So they end up treating everyone like a dummy. I hear that being a trainer here is a great way to make money but I don't have the patience for dealing with people. So you'll have to ask someone else. I make decent money cause I work hard. Most of what I hear from people not making money is excuses and blame towards others so I think most of that comes from laziness.
