Bud ... What makes you think I am a YOUNG Driver??? Near as I can tell from your profile you only have 10 years of experience on me . Yup I have been around the block a few times in a truck too .. LOL And I started off heavy haul , Pulling logs out of the woods to the mill , then right into Red River Live bottom at 45-50 ton in my 8 axle wagon hauling asphalt, so go blow smoke up someone else's butt.... Mr I drive a 80,000 gross . Oh I will give you credit you probably have some heavy haul experience yourself though. But But I'm just a young dumb driver LOL. I will agree to disagree with you on the expense and cost that it takes to run a truck down the road. OK Why is everyone stuck in the past?? Things have changed , you either change with times or get left behind.... Some will just be left behind, we are just all stubborn drivers right.

I never said you don't have a clue .... Just that the expense is not set in stone.
    Thank you,

.its 1.30 a mile to run a truck AND YOUR BUSINESS...after that its your profit..

    2000 miles x 1.75 = 3,500 gross to truck

    2000 x 45 cents (driver profit for labor) = 900.00 for you

here is the kicker...good luck trying to find loads that pay all miles loaded and empty at 1.75....unheard of IN THIS ECONOMY AS IT STANDS....

IF YOU RUN A LOAD FOR 1.50 A MILE YOU ARE ONLY PROFITING .20 CENTS A MILE FOR LABOR...ITS SIMPLE...

WHY DO YOU WANNA-BE O/O'S TRY TO LOWER THE COST PER MILE TO RUN A BUSINESS?

IS IT SOME KIND OF STRANGE DENIAL YOU HAVE TO HAVE IN YOUR HEAD TO MAKE IT SEEM WORTHWHILE?

    WHAT IS IT....?

ok my cost per mile to run my truck down the road is 1.30....heres the kicker pal..its paid for...so if you have a payment your cost per mile will be higher...simple....

The problem is really not what we are debateing...

The problem is the rates are down so low you or i can't make it out here anymore....what don't you get about that....

Read the papers...2,800 trucking companies folded last year and more ahead coming...do you think these people were all dumb? Of course not....its the times we are in....

    the rates are not there

if the rates are not there then why buy a truck?to tell people your a o/o? To look kool?to be kool?

I just looked on my load board and the best rate i found out of kansas city is 1.68 going to miami...ok not bad right....wrong

400-500 mile deadhead out of miami to ga to only get a 1.10 load.
Where are you going with this...

Do you see my point? Geeeeeeesssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I am in a "lucky: position, I still have a "driver" job And im an owner operator, my wife has a class a too so she drives. if the jobs arent out there the truck can just sit no big deal.
Ive been in this business for 20 years
i practicly cut my teeth on 24.5 low pro's
and ive got a2-3 bus loads of freinds that "were" in the game and have since gone broke and lost their big trucks and and all the rest.
So, here's my advice and i understand you didnt ask for it so take it with a grain of salt,if you're gonna make it you have to be able to diversify, if produce aint payin jump to flatbeddin, when that aint payin jump to dry van, and so on and so on. And remember most all just say NO TO CHEAP FREIGHT:biggrin_25516: and i Know you're all excited, you are gonna be the boss you're gonna be the one calling the shots......and you know what???? ITS GREAT! I LOVE IT TOO. BUT BE CHOOSEY.

i am sitting now because the rates are very, very bad...its not worth tearing the truck up for .20 cent profit....you get me, because i like you been in this game for 20 years and most of it was o/o....i would rather sit until economy shapes up..

But make sure you can afford to run the truck at ready.................

cost per mile...................figure your cost per mile then you can see for a fact what kind of payment you need to be at....

Thank You ! Now you see why I picked the Pete...The Columbia is still a Colombia LOL and will not have a appeal at resale. The Pete has high mileage but someone took very good care of it.. As I said I had it on a dyno and it seems to be very strong yet. I'm thinking that I will have to replace the rears at some point , It drives smooth , rides great .. And the price is right. With my down payment I will have a payment around $850.00 -$900.00 a month . I don't think that's to bad. I have been running all my figures with a $1,300.00 a month payment . Figure it's better to aim high and have a little padding on the figures.
