If it is really good locating addresses, it would save more than that just in time and fuel hunting down consignees.
On how many will spring for it, depends on how good it actually works for trucks.Ducks Thanks this. -
Ain't worth 5 bills if it cant swing the doors too.
Devices such as these are crutch's for the lazy.
They dont help anything, except the furtherance of Techno Dependants.
1) #2 Pencil
1) Note pad
1) Road Map
$3-$4 worth of quarters
Run more miles with the simple tools
Its ridiculous what people justify out here these days.

They are crutches for the lazy?? Aren't you a tanker driver? Where you drive and deliver is nothing like dry van. I can use an atlas with the best, but it is out dated long before you buy it and does not have street level directions.
Bad directions, missed turn, construction, changed truck routes, and out of date data and the fun begins (NOT).
Technology is not substitute for knowledge, just another tool to getting the job done, efficiently and profitably.Last edited: Aug 22, 2009

Do you do my job? Do I do yours? I have a pencil, a note pad, a map and a cell phone so I don't need to waste quarters or time on a pay phone. I call and get info also. However, I do also have a truck gps and frankly I may just buy this one if it is an improvement. Am I lazy? No, I work smart. Tell me something oh great sage of the trucking industry: do you have signal indicators that you use or do you hang your arm out the window in the snow and sleet because only a lazy person would use those new fangled indicator thingies? Do you use cruise control? Do you have air conditioning?
Just because YOU don't see the value doesn't mean that others won't, don't and shouldn't.
Or maybe that's a team of oxen pulling that tanker instead of a lazy man's new fangled tractor with an engine. -
Ducks, hubby and I argued over the difference between a "reg" gps and a truck one. I insisted it was smarter to spend the extra and get the truck one. We were given bad info by the dept in Chicago that was to tell us a good route and what bridges to avoid. The GPS told us it was a bad route, I doubled checked and the gps was right.
I like rand macnally and frankly I like the idea of the truck stops on it also. I'll be looking at because when I'm driving and hubby's asleep I want all the aid I can get my grubby lil paws on. That's a big chunk of money to me so it'll have to have a very good reason for me to buy it.Rattlebunny and Ducks Thank this. -

Stuffing truck data in a box with pretty pictures that replace map pages made of paper,in no way aids any thing but the lazy.
If spending $500 will make you smarter then knock yer knickers off and get TWO ! then you'll be one up on the entire industry.
The mere thought of such a Social Status level makes me dizzy
How could trucking possibly advance any further ?
FWIW to ya I wouldn't do your job for 3X the pay, wouldn't near cover my monthly expenses.
No you couldn't do my job,you haven't the experience, credentials or financial backing required.
No,I do not pull a tanker.
