So since getting my license and becoming a driver I seem to really notice trucks tail gating me. It could be because I've slowed down to cruising at no more than 10km (60km/h in a 50 etc) over the posted limit at all times in my car which is considered slow because everyone passes me. Never had a speeding ticket before and getting one now would put me out of a job for 3 years. The problem is when I get truckers who tail gate me in fully loaded rigs. Knowing what I know now about driving a loaded truck is you're not going to stop faster than my Subaru WRX let alone most all cars on the road if there is a need to stop. I'm quick thinking when a situation arises to get out of the way of a truck that will hit but they don't know that. Why would they want to go faster than me if I'm already going 10 over? They'll be blowing red lights like crazy driving in the city. Often I'll pass a speed trap and have saved the people behind me a ticket by only going 10 over instead of 15 or 20 over.

If traffic is light, they'll sometimes pass me but sometimes I'll move into the left lane and slow down behind them. If traffic is like it usually is they just ride my bumper for ever and ever. If it gets really bad I just coast and drop 15 clicks and then quickly accelerate back to my cruising speed since it takes a loaded truck so long to accelerate. It's a D-bag thing to do but it usually works to make them back off some.

    3 things:

    1. Legislation: Bonehead traffic laws have no use but population control.
    2. Idiot truck driver: Hasnt learned how to flow with traffic
    3. And the biggest reason why you get tailgated by idiot truck drivers (are you ready for this?)

(This part is for you personally)YOU CANT DRIVE!

(The rest is not directed to you personally but to everyone else like you who think they can drive but actually cant. So if your feelings get hurt by the generalization, thats your problem.)

Trucks have that stupid speed restriction thingy in Ontario and yet they are tailgating you trying to make the best of a really bad situation. I've seen some numbskull truck drivers before, but I havent seen too many drivers tailgate a 4 wheeler thats in the right lane, WHERE SLOWER TRAFFIC IS SUPPOSED TO BE! Legislation cut the trucks back, which means trucks will travel in clusters of traffic. Then you have some Darwin winner talking about the posted limit , and he's blocking a lane where trucks arent restricted to. Gee, thanks a whole lot moron! If you are not keeping up with the flow of traffic, YOU are creating a bottleneck, and are increasing everyone's potential for a road hazard. If you want to Sunday drive, do everyone( cars and trucks alike) GET OFF THE HIGHWAY!

Do you know how hard it is to get through traffic in a communist country? Trucks can be restricted to 2 lanes on a 5 lane wide road, not 1 car in the far left hand lane, and 50% of all cars in what should be the only passing lane for a truck, and these cars cant run a constant speed.

    I can't drive? Excuse me?!

I'm talking about in the city where the posted speed limit is 50km/h and I'm already doing 60km/h. NOT on the highway! Why should I let some bonehead truck driver push me to drive faster when I catch up to all the people who passed me because they got to a red light sooner than me?

I guess the best thing to consider is which lane are you in?

A truck cannot go in the next lane on a 3 lane highway and if you are in their passing lane, you should move to another lane.

A true safe driver would not be in the lane holding up traffic because he wants to do one speed. If other traffic wants to go faster, move over and let them. Less stress that way.

I'm talking about when I'm in the right lane on a 2 (4 total) lane city street and I move over and let a truck pass if I can. There are even times where there is a car infront of me with light traffic all around and low and behold there is a truck driving up my ###. Now I know you need to close up gaps when in traffic to keep from being cut off but you don't need to close the gap down to 4 feet.

    In those cases who knows.

There are many that drive trucks like they are cars. Not all are that way.

If you are in a 4 wheeler... Get the hell outta the way. You aren't working. He is.

There's no good reason for a truck to tailgate a car or for anyone to tailgate anyone.

This is a good thread. My mom had this problem on I-79 between Meadville and Erie, PA. For those of you who don't know, I-79 in this area is your basic 4 lane divided highway. Mom would be driving home from her job between 6 and 6:15pm. Approximately three times per week, she'd get chased down the road by a Ward driver. I'm presuming this was a local jerkwad. The driver had the traditional day-cab tractor and 53' trailer combo. Mom drives a Toyota Echo. She would be driving a safe, sane 65-68 mph, and this driver would get right up behind her, to the point all she could see of the truck was the grill. If she slowed down, he got closer. If she sped up, he tried to catch her. If she moved over to the hammerlane so he could pass, he'd move right in behind her. He even chased her into the breakdown lane once. I know, because I was riding with her that night. This sorta pissed me off, so one night, I took my big truck up to Erie, and followed her home. We got lucky, and good old Ward was out that night. He tucked in right behind Mom, as was his habit. We came up to a rest area, and I was behind the Ward truck. Mom pulled into the rest area, Ward went in after her, and I followed. Needless to say, that Ward driver got himself a thorough education in following distance that night. Nobody threatens my Momma. Ever.

Sounds like you're one of these tailgating idiots.

The thing that pisses me off the most is this happens in the city. The people that do more than 10 or 12km over just get to the red lights sooner. Heck sometimes I even pass them because they have to accelerate from 0 and I'm already doing 60 when I get to the now green light only for them to do it all over again after they pass me again. What is the point? You just burn more fuel and add needless wear and tear on your car or equipment. Nevermind any of the speeding, starting and stopping etc, what happens when the car infront needs to stop and mr. steering wheel holder is 5 feet away? Was it worth it after you loose your job for plowing into that car?
