Need some coolant and the red colored shell brand at this truckstop doesn't meet my engine's specifications... You mean to tell me my Cummins X15 is really going to tell the difference if I did buy this shell brand? I think it holds like 12-14 gallons so I just cannot see how adding 1/2 gallon of this stuff would really be a big deal? Maybe im wrong??? Where's the resident mechanic at? @Goodysnap This truck has no coolant filter either...
All depends on the chemical makeup of coolant. Some are not compatible with each other will cause chemical reactions and a sludge to form. Also May attack seals and gaskets.
1/2 gallon should not be detrimental just like if one is using synthetic oil and can only find dino oil instead, in a pinch. it is just not advisable to not use the correct brand, as an engine company has certain requirements for each chemical they use. but only a small amount should not be much of a problem. some would go on to say that when possible, after using a different type, to get a full flush and refill
If its red and a ELC you should be good. Stay away from the universal, prestone, one coolant fits all. Also stay away from anything thats not premix. Factory filled should be Cummins ES with OAT or TRP extended life is what we have on hand.
Ya TRP is what it was factory filled with i believe... Bad thing is only dealership carry it... Think I'm gonna wait till morning and swing by peterbilt...
Stock up, its proly cheaper than truckstop too. Your always gonna add a qt or 2 every few months even if you dont have any dribbles. I always leave extras in side compartments for top offs if i dont use it all.
Ya. I've got 120k on here now and believe I've added 2 or 3 gallon since I bought it new.. Oil samples come back clean not indicating any internally.
I was going to say buy a few gallons. They have red PEAK that meets all specs at wally world for $12. $22 at TA.
