We have an area of interstate near our house that's pretty steep. Going up and down hill, the left hand lane is reserved for 4 wheelers. Within the last two weeks we've been cut off several times by truckers that just swing on over into the left hand lane that is clearly marked "No Trucks This Lane" and have almost hit us. The last time, we were riding two-up on my motorcycle. Ticked us off big time. Dh pulled up next to the door of the truck and let the guy know he wasn't pleased. The truck driver kept telling my dh to pull over and they can settle it on side the road. As if it was our fault.![]()

well,I drive truck and get cut off alot also. You mentioned it only happening the last couple of weeks so is their some kind of obstruction like a huge pothole, anything that would make drivers take the left lane other than slower trucks in front of them.
I go thru alot of areas where its right lane only and generally all the trucks obey this unless their is a problem in that lane.
As far as the left being "reserved" for four wheelers no matter what,c'mon the speed limit in my state is 55 and about 99% of the four wheelers dont respect that.
I could go on and on about getting cut off or passed by someone only to make a lefthand turn a mile up the road.
Never ride beside a big truck or on the trucks tail, look out for that moron truck driver. -
You're talking about going through the gorge between NC and TN on 40, right? I travel that route a couple times a week and it is getting to be worse and worse of a problem. Guys blowing by you on the downhill and then crawling up the other side, or blowing by you (when you're running 5-7 over the 50 MPH speed limit anyway) then having to slam on their brakes in the 45 MPH curves. I stay in the right lane when I go through, but lots of drivers don't. Most of the time I'm going through there I'm empty (or nearly so) and my truck will run however fast I want to drive. Most of these idiots that blow by me (and a lot of other trucks too) I have to pass when I get out of the restricted area.
NC and TN cops need to start stopping these guys from doing this. It gets old fast!dollylama Thanks this. -
You won't find me out there.
April fool's day, 2008: I decided (along with three other brainiacs) that we would "cheat" on the last little stretch of I-75 northbound toward Jellico.
Quickest $209.50 I've ever spent. Trooper didn't ask for my log book either. Only ticket I've ever received in a CMV, and it was 100% my own fault. I've heard the fine in the "gorge" there at the NC/TN line is over $300 now...
I'll stay to the right....dollylama Thanks this. -

I stay out of the left lane unless I'm faster by quite a bit and there's no traffic coming up from behind. Most of us seem to run the same way.
Unfortunately with the great DOT cracking down in the name of safety (read money) you're going to see more and more of this. The experienced drivers are about fed up and the new guys are going to be doing what they do best.
Just stay clear of the trucks as best you can no matter where you are. -
I stay out of the left lane because the sign says to. unfortunately, the DOT and other cops think they should be able to go around enforcing the law and writing tickets. then you have the legislators introducing and passing all these new laws. then we have judges interpreting laws and passing judgement on people. where will it end????
squirrellsgnwild, LooneyTune and spinpsychle Thank this. -
If the trucker gets out to kick your butt, is that line 1? Obviously not line 2 or 3, how about Line 4? Does it depend on the company if butt kicking is on duty or off? If the butt kicking lasts more than 7.75 hours, it is a break? Oh these laws and regulations?!?!?!!?!? what is a driver to do?
Elvenhome21, kajidono, spinpsychle and 2 others Thank this. -

We were in the process of passing the guy. So we weren't riding beside him or on his tail.
