I wish this was backed by a 13 or 18 speed. That long stretch between 10th and 9th on a hill doesn't kill it, but if I just had that half gear to split it would be so much better. I've been lugging it down to about 1,150 and grabbing 9th, so it puts it right around 1500, right where it needs to be. Any lower than 1150 and that dog is GROWLING lol

Absolutely. I picked up a 2014 CXU with a 415 mp8 for a driver and I’m test driving it before I give it to him, and you’re right the gap between 9 and 10 is too wide (especially with a smooth bore tank) but this think is a powerhouse. I’d say it would keep up with my 500ISX all day long and if it had a 13, give my 565X15 a good run for its money. I’d love to see what 505 is like.

Supposedly mack has a diff ecu tune in it than its volvo counterpart? No info to back that up other than the 505mp 8 is 1860tq where the 500 volvo is 1850

Yes that is correct. Fleet I’m on with got three Mack’s and three Volvo’s two years ago. We pull super b train hopper bottoms,140,000 lbs.
The Mack’s out pull and get better fuel economy than the Volvo’s.
Unfortunately they went to all Volvo’s after that, as the local Mack dealer gives terrible service.

My local dealership sells both, Volvo and Mack. One of the service guys told me that the 19 and up Macks have terrible build quality, way worse than Volvo.
Nothing major, but lots of small things that constantly bring those trucks back to the shop. He said it's like inexperienced kids put those things together

One more reason to keep the old iron going. They must still be on diff assembly plants? One having ####ty quality control compared to the other?

Looks like it. He said the new body style Volvo's have bunch of problems too, but Mack is worse

Mack laid off 3-400 workers in the Allentown plant last year due to a "decrease in demand in the heavy truck market", so I'm sure that has something to do with it lol

I only see like 34 psi max on the boost gauge with my truck.

    I have a question ( raise hand ).

I almost went with new Mack's. My question isn't the reason I didn't.

I've heard the MIL light is on perpetually in the new Mack's. Yes or no?
