I read about that actually last year. Didn't know it was you that fought back against it. To be honest I never minded it much, I always covered it during my off time.

Wouldn't work there again though, they say they can only see you when there's a critical event but in reality they can pop in at anytime

Just a quick note on the driver facing cameras and insurance. The insurance companies know it’s illegal, but they’re offering incentives for companies to push it, to limit liability. Their stance is, the civil lawsuit over invasion of privacy, is cheaper than a nuclear verdict; in which they can’t remove all reasonable about.

That comes from family of mine, who have been in insurance for 40 years.

Also, EVERY camera system has real time remote monitoring, period.

Company will tell you anything that suits their needs. All driver facing cameras where i work have been covered with masks since they were installed 6 months ago and company hasn’t said boo.

Just a little update, Westcan is re-branding/re-colouring all their equipment, to their parent company Kenan Advantage Group. Apparently, they feel their image is so bad, they his the next logical step. Or the smart ####er equity hires from UBC told them too.

I currently work for Paul's. The way it is...KAG bought Westcan, then Westcan/KAG bought Paul's. Yes, the company runs similar to communism, where you are watched at every stop sign, lane change and red light. There are cameras, but they only face outwards (for now). Only a sticker covers the inward facing camera. If you have a recordable event (hard braking, front impact, double solid line lane change, speeding, red light, etc.) the camera will save and send approx. 20sec. before and after the event to a 3rd party monitoring group, who then evaluate the recording and alert your employer if deemed necessary. Not only is there a camera, but also a microphone. So... if you run a stop sign while talking on your cell phone (did I mention cell phones, with legal headsets are against company policy?) the video will also have audio. Basically no cell phones, no smoking, no eating, no drinking coffee, no farting (LOL) while driving. If you can handle the communism, then you will do well. Most full-time company drivers make $100-140K/year.
If you have a clean abstract, clear criminal record and at least 6 months driving experience, you're hired. But don't expect to start a full-time dedicated run, home every night deal. No, you will need countless hours of classroom/practical training to potentially haul every commodity they do. You will be a "universal driver" for the first year or two, until someone quits/retires/dies. Then everyone moves up the food chain.
If you have patience and willing to sacrifice personal freedoms, Westcan is a good company to work for. You will make more than $1600-1700/bi-monthly as you are now.

Kriska is exactly the same way with the no cell phone policy and no head sets either.we also have forward facing cameras but no camera lense on the inside . everything you said about hard braking , go too fast around a bend don’t come to a complete stop at red light or stop sign is all the same here . i get atleast 1 hard brake a week . we just got notice that starting in aug there putting more money in our pockets which i think is a pay raise so i’m staying put until then . if we get a 1 dollar raise i would be at $25-$26 a hr if i work 11 hrs a day and i’m coming up to 10 years and 4 weeks vacation . i would hate to lose everything

Sorry this is considered good? And esp after 10 years?

It's no wonder no one is getting into the industry now if after 10000 dollars to get a licence and 10 years seniority your making 25 dollars amd hour esp with cost of living I'n Canada

Funny you mention communism, we've called them "The Red Army" for years!
