SS is tied to annual inflation. When the number was 0, they got 0 increase. They complained. Tie the minimum wage to inflation, like SS. Wages have been depressed for years. Same old arguments every time, raising the minimum wage is debated. Mc Donald’s is the first to complain. Last time it was raised, McDonalds came out with the $1 menu. They had record profits afterwards, despite paying higher wages. I personally don’t mind paying a little more for a burger. As far as automation goes. It’s inevitable. Regardless of pay. The only Jobs left now are the ones that can’t be automated. The fact is no one wants those jobs anyway. They’re only taken when it’s all that’s available. As far as SS recipients are concerned, I see plenty working at Mc Donald’s. Sometimes more Seniors than Teenagers. Many need the money. Others do it to stay busy. The other reason the minimum wage should be higher, is because it automatically raises other wages. Including Truckdrivers. With the demise of Organized Labor, the minimum wage is about the only force left to put pressure on wages. Even though I run my own Truck, I consider myself a Worker. Higher pay for Truckdrivers means higher rates for Me. Inflation caused by higher wages doesn’t bother me. Inflation without higher wages does. Without higher wages a worker is chasing inflation. Current high inflation rate is mainly caused by supply shortages and will slow. The current minimum wage debate is more of a distraction than reality. The market is paying more than $15hr. now to start at some fast food restaurants. When the economy slows, it will be important. When good paying jobs are lost, and menial jobs are all that’s available. They’re still jobs that need to be done. They should pay a decent wage.LoSt_AgAiN, BennysPennys, 77fib77 and 1 other person Thank this. -
