Had a minor accident. My fault. Scared I'm gonna get fired.

OK so here's my issue: they found out about you're accident through the other driver. How is it that THEY sent you pictures of the damage? You messed up in that regard, because your company didn't find out from you first. If there's anything that will get you fired, that will.

 

That is a tight spot. Should have just refused to park in that area. Still should have got out and looked close and reported it if you thought you hit something.

 

Of course there is a lesson or two to be learned here, but I'm sure this is a drop in the bucket compared to all the incidents, accidents, etc. that a company the size of Schneider deals with every day.

Put yourself in the safety director's shoes and imagine all the atrocities he sees come across his desk.

I wouldn't worry about getting fired over this, but you may have some extra training in your future.

 

That was my first thought. Do they really have to be that close?

 

I once returned to a certain oilfield company's storage yard in the dead of night with an ISO tanker trailer. The yard was pitch dark inside the fence lights, no one else around.

Opened the gate, there was one spot left in the entire yard, it was deep in the middle, and there were rigs parked across the way to make it as tight as possible. I wore out the door hinges ans some flashlight batteries that night with GOALing. Sometimes moved a foot and then looked again.

Nothing to be ashamed of getting out.

When i was new I wondered if doing that made me look incompetent, becausesome drivers just seem to float back right into place.

But it's the opposite. Safe drivers have really boring days at work. Not that I am one yet.

I agree that the parking is too tight there. It's unsafe because you can't easily inspect your trailer. If I was pulling out I'd double check that no one else was in or around adjoining equipment before moving, and even then I'd worry a little.

And you should have reported it yourself and sent photos.

 

Not sure what state you were in you may be lucky that they didn’t contact the authorities. Could be a leaving the scene of a accident case.

 

Always get out and look.
You can also refuse to park there.

I get sick of places wanting me to thread the needle because of their stupidity. Make em find a different spot or in my case unload by hand.

It is a hit and run.

Driver should have stopped right there to assess the damage, taken pictures and report it to the company.
Grant heard the contact, so probably felt it some as well.
Big heavy trucks do not contact anything without leaving some damage.
