If you are gonna put a moffett on a step, better off with a top mount bracket. Its a sliding cage you put the forks into, mounted on an I beam frame. You insert the forks into the cage at full outward extension, put the forks down until you clear the deck, retract the fork carriage, when the front tires of the lift are onto the deck, lock the diff and drive forward to where the cage max’s its forward movement. 2 chains pulling the unit forward and voila.

A couple years ago Discount sold the kits or parts and used to mount them on your trailer. Not sure if they still do.

Those are magic. Had one like that on one of my trains for a while. It parked the forklift across the front of the back trailer. Made it a bit of a headache to load around it there, hard to get the tridem up to weight. If that comes up again I think I’m putting the rack in the middle of the back trailer. Should be easier to load then. Probably the biggest thing with those mounts is you’re not beating the forklift to pieces with it hung off the back of an empty trailer. A few miles out over a potholed gravel road empty can be an agony. I’ve used both, and I think I’d even give up the deck space on a hiboy or up on the high deck of a step and carry the lift up there. I used one for natural building stone and manufactured stone products so I didn’t need all of the deck to get weight.

I have never seen ramps on the front of a trailer before. Thats a great idea. And I can see how useful it could be.
