I had one in the late 90's that was that way. Test truck when Detroit was coming out with that 14 liter 60 series. Last Program she had in the Computer was 585 on the foot feed and 635 on the Cruise with 2100 ftlbs of tourque. This was in a Fleet Truck called the boss signed 10 of us up for testers and we loved the engines. 5 Teams to run the HELL OUT OF THE MOTORS and 5 Solos that would beat them to hell. Here was the restrictons however we had to be allowed to run with no SPEED RESTRICTION per Detroit that was not a problem according to the boss. That was fun running 75 in the West again.

I never understood the attraction to CAT because fuel mileage sucks on them. Then again I don't like CAT. I mean the 3406B was a great engine but when they went to the 3406E and C15 they went downhill. The nail in the coffin for CAT was the C15. Y'all may knock Detroit but they were ahead of the game when they introduced the 60 Series. The only other engine to ever come close to a Detroit was Cummins. I look at Cummins as a CAT/Detroit hybrid. CAT with the pulling power and Detroit with the fuel economy. Like I said if I was an owner operator I would be more worried about saving/making a profit over looking cool and having the most ###### chromed truck. Honestly a clean plain jane truck is much more attractive to me than a chromed out ride. Sure some chrome is nice but you see so many of them it gets old and besides I don't want to polish and clean all that chrome. Too much of a hassle for me.

I can speak of my Detroit (I only owned one), as I've posted before it was a no pulling, oil leaking, money pit, and the mileage wasn't anything to brag about either....however I did buy that truck used, might have been part of it I suppose..
I'm not paying the fuel bill anymore so I'll take the Cat and the power that comes with it....and if I were ever buy another I would still go Cat..
As for the Cummins I drove one (600 sig) while the boss serviced mine, it pulled well, really well.....can't speak for the mileage I only did one short load in it..
Too each his own friend.. -
I can understand that and yeah the thing with used trucks is it may be a lemon due to the previous owner not taking care of it but first time buyers blame it on the truck not taking into account it's history. But yeah to each his own that is what makes it great is we all have our own opinions, likes, and dislikes. We can only agree to disagree.

I drove a newer DD fleet truck. I wasn't impressed with it at all. The new 11.9 liter ISX will outpull that engine.

Just curious who do you drive for ??walleye Thanks this.

I don't drive, I'm a college student going for management. I grew up and worked in trucking. I already got into an argument with someone else because they felt because I'm 19 and worked in trucking but never drove a truck on the road except around the yard and stuff that I don't know what I'm talking about or know how the trucking lifestyle is. At least I don't come off acting like a know it all cause I don't know everything. Sure some of my comments may not make sense but I gather my own judgement from what I hear and see for myself.
