I once owned a car. The fronts had small 15 in. tires. The backs had tall 15 in. Winter tires.

Gave the car that somewhat sloped look that was popular back then.

Needless to say. The brakes sucked.

Front tires spinning faster while back tires spinning slower.

24 tires and 22 tires. Not all drums spinning same speed.

Brakes work better when everything is equal.

    Interesting conclusion from one experience.
And a car that likely had front disk brakes and drums in the rear. And the drum brakes sucked.

So why would the engineering and factory build trucks with disc brakes on the steers and drums on the rear and vise versa? Ive seen them built out of the factory both ways.....so If what you're saying is true, then that wouldn't be optimal as far as brake performance goes because the geometry and design of drums versus disc is very different and couldn't that become a liability?

I feel bad for the guys pulling a stepdeck or lowboy. I’ve seen tall 24’s on the truck and 17.5’s on the trailer. Those poor guys must barely be able to get stopped. They have some serious driving skill for sure.

I do my very best.. .. I was trying to be congenial about this whole brake topic as not to derail this thread ..The OP is wanting to roll in a comfortable RPM range .. he's not worried about stopping & braking performace

I'm sorry friend, but I must inform you that Snowwy wasn't purposely trying to derail this thread. He was simply making a public service announcement that 99% of people (including truckers) don't keep their brakes maintained and up to par. I never realized until reading his post that 9 out of 10 vehicles I encounter on the highway have brakes on the verge of total failure.
