this is what engine looks like, and this is what she looked like before the stretch

when she was almost done
jldilley, Bean Jr., IH Truck Guy and 1 other person Thank this. -
If she’s running good leave her alone and enjoy trouble free fun. Cummins remanned lots of 290’s and 350’s into 400’s and they did pretty good. The only problem with the true 290 sc’s were the tapered snout crankshaft woth the two piece rubber pressed damper. The same one that the 250’s and 335’s had. They were sketchy above 350. The old 380’s would break them. The true 350’s (cpl 160) were the first with the flat snout crank and one piece viscous damper used all the why up to the N-14. Much stronger and could take much higher hp’s.Oxbow and Jubal Early Times Thank this.

Is it largely an American thing? Whats the attraction or benefit to stretching trucks?
Oxbow and IH Truck Guy Thank this. -
Yes,but I have seen some awesome stretch trucks in Canada as well.
The cool factor and much better ride.
Oxbow, Deere hunter and jaffles Thank this. -
What @IH Truck Guy said. Altho. In @Catmando ’s case. I think he’s got a couple jet engines he’s gonna strap on the back and go racing. Just poking fun at a cool looking ride. Lol!IH Truck Guy and jaffles Thank this.

I APPRECIATE the advise and apologies for my ignorance im completely green to trucking could you please post a pic or please explain what to look for on tapered snout? I also did some reading about absolutely replace the damper to an updated vicious and also do a valve adjustment since its been sitting. I did a fuel line update to a #12 line and also I did a fuel filter upgrade do you have any other recommendations to look for or do besides the obvious oil and cooling system change? Oh im replacing the rad with a brand new one. thanks sooo very much in advanceOxbow Thanks this.

and also was wondering how do I tell if its a vt-50 or ht3b turbo? im trying to buy a turbo exhaust pipe with flange so I can finish the exhaust thanks againOxbow Thanks this.

The easy id for a VT50 is the wider band clamp between the two halves. The oil supply and return goe thru holes in it. Also the intake side turbine housing has way more bolts and the bolt pattern is much bigger. The sound is different. It is deep and mellow with no whistle and you don’t hear it thru the stacks much even with straights. The ht3b can be heard winding down thru straights for 10- 20 seconds after the engine is shutdown. Lol!
