That isn't anything. My sister's bf years ago was picked up for a DUI and he refused a breathalizer, so they took him to the emergency to draw his blood to do a BAC, with my sister in the next bed, long story, but she got a two fractures in her foot and right upper arm. She "fell" in a ditch because he told her to get out of his truck on a dark, lonely stretch of road. Anyway, they drew his blood and his BAC was .50 and he was still standing. This wasn't his first DUI and won't be his last, but he's done no jail time except long enough to sober up and then release him. This is the biggest reason why I disagree with pot becoming legal, it will just be more laws that are ignored and more people getting killed as a result.

Wis DUI/DWI laws are a joke. There was a local DARE officer convicted of DUI recently, all she got was a fine, and a slap on thw wrist.

many stories for multi DUI offienders in the local papers and in Green bay. Any one can make a bad choice, or a mistake once, but after that, send them to the big house to dry out, and 3rd time should be 25 yrs in the pen.

While I happen to agree with you, there are those who don't consider them criminals. I always thought if you broke the law, there were consequences. I believe they are called drunk driving laws and they should be enforced, otherwise there are no deterrents to committing the same act over and over. Is it any wonder that so many thumb their nose at them?

Yup, the cops bag and tag em. The judges squeeze them for money and make them jump through a few hoops, and they are back on the road. Its all about the money.

Anybody can make a mistake once, second time it should be mandatory jail time. After that I would love to see them get a couple years in prison.

Millions of Americans already use "pot" and are therefor ignoring the law with no deaths occurring as a result. Please post where you get your information concerning the number of deaths attributed to the use of "pot".

What I was trying to say is that legalizing pot will come with laws restricting its use, similar to alcohol. We already know that people drink and drive and get DUI's but the laws are not enforced. I know that pot does alter your perception, similar to drinking. If they get behind the wheel of their car they could hurt someone because of this altered state of mind. Anyone who has tried pot can say it most certainly affects your reflexes and your field of vision. Anyone who wants to deny that fact is only fooling themselves.

How many pot related deaths are absorbed into the statistics of alcohol related deaths, in other words, DWI? How many smoked pot and then consumed alcohol? Makes this easy to put it in the alcohol related deaths, which skews the actual results.

I have no problem with the medicinal qualities of pot or people using it for this purpose. I have problems with the laws that would be legislated relating to the legalizing of pot use. Right now pot is illegal so the number of users is smaller. Legalize it and those numbers jump because those who wouldn't use it when it was illegal will have this liberty without the penalty of jail. This could potentially increase the amount of deaths due to substance abuse. This, of course, is just my opinion. But there are cases of deaths (car accidents) where pot was a contributing factor. I didn't mean to imply that a person died from an overdose of pot, just that the diminished mental capacities, while under the influence, and driving, were a factor.
