This is a pic of my father in laws latest project. Truck is an ‘81 IH 4070B. He was wondering and I too, what style of axles, drums and hubs these are? We’ve got another 4070B but it has a different set up than this. 0A65B50F-7F1B-414F-82A0-F56CE86ECDD5.jpeg 56CB0D21-B17A-4EEE-B5A1-560ED96B39FA.jpeg

Looks like stud pilot hubs with inboard drums.

Ok, is there an advantage or disadvantage? What’s the purpose?

But the studs look to small for that. I bet it has inner and outer lugs ( Budd ). Very odd and I have never seen that.

If it has std bearings, swap it to hub pilot. cheaper and 10x easier to service.

    W923 and AModelCat Thank this.

Something usually goes wrong when I try something like that but it would be nice.

I've worked on alot of different things, with a good amount of old IH experiences. Never seen this. But I have a thought. 80's they built some trucks with disc brakes. Could this be the original disk, converted back to drum?

Never seen one in person. Heard descriptions. Seen trailers converted back. Never seem the trucks in person.

Idk, this is only my thoughts.

Yeah, may not be possible with that one, never seen one. I have swapped plenty of budd's and spoke hubs to hub pilot on trucks and trailers.
