Can't count the number of times over the years I've seen a big truck in the ditch and it just happened at around 5 AM. Obviously, the driver tried to convince himself he could do it, drive all day AND all night. It's the daybreak hour when your body says go to sleep. I'm always amazed when I drive the interstate and see guard rail crumpled up from an accident. I'm wondering why the driver ran off the road there instead of a 1/2 mi back where there wasn't any guardrail !

Grass grows back faster than the road crews can replace the guard rail.

Last time for me was unicorns in the middle of the highway.

I figured that would be a good time to pull over and take a catnap for 20-30 mins.

I don’t see the problem with taking a nap or two on a straight road. These trucks practically drive themselves.

Only times i've fallen asleep was when I was low on sleep, but I don't have narcolepsy or anything like that. I guess it just takes time to get used to the rhythm of things but I know I should've gotten an energy drink or said something when we were at the truck stop. Hindsight is always 20/20 I suppose. Too late for that now. I got my dac report and it only says that werner requested a background check, doesn't say anything about my employment history which is odd. Thanks for the replies, just trying to undo this mess and get back on track, driving a truck for a living, or at least trying to.

Because of our individual biorhythms. there are certain times of day we're just prone to getting drowsy, even if we're well-rested. For me it's between 1:00 and 3:00, am or pm. Pulling over to take a quick nap doesn't work for me - I can't fall asleep on command like that. To get through, I like to keep moving - shake my arms, tap my feet (using cruise control) or the steering wheel. Another one that helps is singing along to the radio, really loud.

OP, it only takes you falling asleep for 1 second to end up in the ditch. So, before you get in the same situation again, learn how to cope with fatigue in order to make it to your destination:
Caffeine helps at least short-term. Coffee, tea, colas, even Mountain Dew all have caffeine, as do energy drinks.
Cold air/fresh air helps; open your window.
Loud, obnoxious music helps; gangster rap, tex/mex, zydeco, etc played at loud volume will keep you awake. Sing along with tunes you know.
Deep breathing helps. Pull over and do some mild exercise, preferably outdoors.

This seems to be what is on my dac report but it seems like they don't have enough info for a full "dac report", I cut out the personal info but I am guessing everything is good for now.
