Another group of people who want “transparency” instead of simply finding something else to do. I can’t imagine being ok with what I’m getting paid to the point I’m out doing the work, but once I find out there’s meat left on the bone I want more of the meat. But I guess that’s how “business owners” operate these days.

 

Yep. I said it in another thread "1099 employees" doing this gig work are the most underpaid, overworked individuals out there. Uber, Lyft and Amazon's whole business revolves around not paying employee taxes and benefits. But people willingly line up to do this work and a lot of them aren't really doing anywhere near good. Amazon, uber, Lyft, etc are not going to pay more money when they have plenty of people who gladly work cheap. It's the same as trucking. I've ordered uber eats a couple of times when I was OTR. Its really expensive and I won't use it anymore.

 

I think most people that try these kind of jobs are counting on cash tips to make up the difference.

 

I don’t think wages raise the cost of things as much as people think. For the amount of inflation that gets passed down as a result, at least Workers are getting paid first, followed by any increase in prices. I want everyone that works for a living to get a raise in pay. Starting with me. Some people think they can get ahead by others working cheaper. A lot of Truckers begrudge what others make. I don’t get it. If anything rising hourly wages will result in higher pay for Drivers. So many in this Industry are happy to be working for low pay. On average that’s what it is, considering time involved. The pays barely a little bit more than average. Just barely. That’s the real problem. Not what others make. How many of you have done crazy long hours? Was the pay worth it? Was it voluntary? I’m sure it was. But it still was out of necessity to made that little bit extra.

 

Do you have something you wanna cite? Because according to a quick google search labor cost accounts for 20-35% of all costs for most businesses. That's significant. I would argue that everything you pay for is just cost of labor.

The rest of your post reaffirms you don't know how economics work, you're literally describing inflation. Everybody getting a pay raise leaves people with the same power of their previous income. That's why people are complaining they're making more money than ever now yet are still struggling financially.

Inflation, at its core, comes from too much currency chasing too few goods and services. The sheer magnitude of money printing and government spending the world over during the pandemic to keep economies from crashing is the single largest driver of inflation for the past three years and will continue to be so for the rest of the decade. Our government and The Fed increased M2 42% between March 2020 and March 2021. That has never been done anywhere on the planet and it ever gone smoothly. There was so much capital and liquidity pumped in that what economic growth there was, it could not absorb all of that increased money supply.

Labor is a big factor in the prices of goods and services, yes. But to blame labor costs for inflation shows a true misunderstanding of economics, particularly Modern Monetary Theory.
