Ive been hired on at places where they did all the interviews, drug test ect first. THEN did the road test. Was told it was due to a lot of guys who kept failing the drug test so they wouldnt be liable for having someone like that in their rigs.
Another one i was hired to did the interviews first and guaged my reaction to stuff to see if i would vibe with the culture at the company or if id be an issue before they wasted resources on me. Yet another that saw i had extensive driving experince and that just sent me out since i knew what i was doing better then the interviewer since i corrected him on leaving a valve open on the tanker and the safety guy saw me just close it and mention it to my interviewer lol.
Trucking is diffrent then a lot of corpo jobs especially smaller companys. The hireing process is basically whatever they say it is rather then a fomalized standard template cookie cutter fresh from college brainwashing cog placment.
Didn’t do Road test at interview ???

I just finished orientation. Took drug test. I questioned them about road test not being required. They assured me they do road tests. Guess I’ll do one on Monday, my first day. Hopefully I’ll pass. As long as they don’t require me to double clutch. Lol.

Seriously, man, "double-clutching" is nothing more than a timing exercise; there is no physical need to actually push the clutch pedal a second time! Assuming your left thigh has strong enough quad muscles to just hold the pedal down the extra second(s), the only thing that matters is when the tach gets down to the correct speed. You could also just say "one Mississippi, two Mississippi" if you want him to know your timing it....
Also, a 13 speed? I'll bet that tranny was so old it would probably just slip into gear on it's own...Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
§391.31 Road test.
Guidance Q&A
Question 1: Are employers still required to administer road tests since all States have implemented CDL skills testing?
Guidance: The employer may accept a CDL in lieu of a road test if the driver is required to successfully complete a road test to obtain a CDL in the State of issuance. However, if the employer intends to assign to the driver a vehicle necessitating the doubles/triples or tank vehicle endorsement, the employer must administer the road test under §391.31 in a representative vehicle.Rideandrepair and Jamie01 Thank this. -
Some of my linehaul loads included liquid totes requiring a tanker endorsement, but again, that wasn't part of the road test. I don't even know if that van was loaded.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

I doubt they’ll give me a formal road test, despite what they said. I had already heard about it no longer being required. Apparently he hasn’t. I made the comment while signing the completion of road test form. I got the official answer. We always road test. I just got a text, I passed the drug test. Start work Monday. Whew! That was close!! Lol.

I've had road tests from the mechanic and Co. auditor who had never driven a truck. The best one was we bobtailed around the block, never got out of 4th gear.
