Howdy, y'all. Names Stitch. Been researching and really thinking about gettin into to truckin finally. I'm curious how y'all deal with truckin with a pet-dog to be specific. I have a 28" tall, 60 pound standard Poodle. I want him to be safe and comfortable. I will not leave him without being tethered via harness and seatbelt. My thing is, I want him to be able to seat in the passenger seat, or lay on the floor in-between the seats. How do y'all do it? What other advice would you give truckin with a pet? Thanks for any insight. God bless, y'all.

Not all companies allow pets. The ones that do , usually have a weight limit.
First you need to find a company that will allow a 60 lb. dog.

Kinda doubt you will be able to keep your pooch with you...while you are out on a trainer's truck.

You might wanna make alternate arrangements....to keep & house your friend during that time period.

Wilson Logistics - no limit on weight or breed of dog.
JB Hunt - dog up to 60 lbs.
May Trucking Company - no size or weight restrictions.
Freymiller Trucking Company - no restrictions
Melton Truck Lines - dog must weigh under 90 lbs.
Roehl Transport - dogs up to 60 lbs.
This list is just a few of them.
    Where is your location?

I’ve had my dog with me since 2016. She’s about 60 pounds. She’s always preferred laying on the bed versus sitting in the seat. She’s not a chewer and I haven’t ever had an issue leaving her alone in the truck. Most of the time when I open the door she’s still laying on the bed. Once in a while she’ll be up front, I suppose if something outside got her attention.

I used to take my Great Danes with me in the truck. It can be done & they can be comfortable, it just takes some effort on your part

Best first to find a training company that accepts a dog of that size. @Chinatown already suggested some.

Then apply, get through training, etc., and get assigned your own truck. You probably won’t be allowed to bring the dog before you graduate from training. So once you have your assigned truck, ask about bringing the dog with you. Probably be a hefty pet deposit. Remember to pet proof your truck, namely switches, so they don’t lock you out. Also want to make sure they don’t try to bolt every time you open the door or roll down the window. Mistakes like that can easily lead to tragedy.

Also be prepared that your dog might not do too well while on the truck. Not every animal (or person) acclimates to truck life.

I think that covers it. Hope that helps

Thank you. Do not think the size will be an issue as he is a trained service animal. I have a few "starter companies" I'm looking at.

Thank you. Yea, I've already figured that I wouldn't have him during training. He'll stay home with my wife while I'm going through all the training.
