Extreme heat exposure..dehydration.
What else you got? -
My gut reaction is if its not standard health issues is many of these new electeolit style drinks mixed with energy drinks. People who work outside a lot are likely to go for drinks like gatorlite or electrolit hell some employeers supply them for free or cheap.
Wonder if a lot of these guys are drinking large amounts of them and its causing issues. Afterall electrolytes in excess or if improperly ballanced ARE known to cause kidney damageMagoo1968, silverspur and Concorde Thank this. -
Got to remember, South America has opposite seasons. These migrants are leaving winter cold weather and arriving to hot as fluff Texas summertime weather.
There really isn’t a mysterious reason for what’s happening…just the media doing what they do best

I don't drink any of that stuff. Read the labels and there's dozens of chemicals mixed in. Kidneys and liver can't process all that.fromAtoZ and silverspur Thank this.

Issue with that theroy is if you read the whole article its happening in many places in the world and in extreme heat even in places where its currently winter, implying even if this is a "people came from cold place" its still happening there in THEIR summers. And now is happening here in groups from those same places. Which while i trust the media left right or indy about as much as i can lift my fully loaded semi in kansas with my 85500 permit weight and carry it up a 90 degree sheer cliff face with my nut sack, a rope made from gimpie gimpie and the power of hope. I still think this is indicitive of an issue someplace be it disease or chemical.
Yup i try to use them spareingly if at all. usually i stick to gatoraid as its proven to be safe and/or salt pills. Though i do tend to drink one every week or so for the potasium just because its so bloody hard to get in food and i trust gatorlyte a lot more then i trust some random pharma company considering what ive seen with so #### many suppliments. -

small snippet from the article..
read more here..It’s long but very informative.
One other fact is that the workers in Texas have no rights to take heat related breaks and no county can implement any rules..due to Texas state laws.
A Mysterious Kidney Disease Has Arrived in Texas. Immigration Enforcement Has Made It Harder to Combat.
“Experts couldn’t agree on whether dehydration was a proximate cause of CKDu, but most believed it played a role in the illness. Boggess Alcauter was expecting to find mild dehydration at the ends of shifts. Instead, she was alarmed by the darkness of the urine samples collected before the men had even begun the day’s work, which suggested severe dehydration.
Terrified that one of these laborers would end up in the emergency room or worse, “I basically ruined the study,” Boggess Alcauter says. She would immediately begin pressing participants to drink more water. Many ended their shifts better hydrated than when they began.
Dehydration is a fact of life for these workers, a 48-year-old originally from Honduras told me. Candido Alvarez hangs drywall and performs other construction labor in the Houston area, where he has lived for the past decade. Work conditions are often sweltering, without air-conditioning. Alvarez knew that frequent thirst wasn’t good for him, but he couldn’t do much about it. His bosses severely limited water breaks, even on the hottest days. He didn’t complain. He simply lived with constant fatigue.”Chinatown Thanks this.
