In my early years of trucking, I always thinned out my junk and stored important stuff in a storage locker and was "homeless" while on the road. Had a PO Box and just let my mail accumulate till I got there. My 4 wheeler was at the terminal available for me when I got thru there. In the old days, drivers could receive mail at the terminal.

Thanks for all the good information.
While I still have some internal reservations that I can't logically explain about the idea of not having a 'home' so to speak it does make me feel better that it is somewhat common and no one has yet posted that it is a completely crazy idea :biggrin_25523:

I don't view it as a "crazy ideal" at all, unless i'm really just that crazy :biggrin_25526: A matter of fact, a big part of why I'd rather make 30k trucking instead of working in an office and being home very night comes from the ideal of not having a "home" so to speak. Luckily my parents allow me to have my mail sent to their house and the 1-3 times I plan on being home a year, I'm welcome to crash in the den which is good enough for me since I'm banking over 12k/yr that I'd otherwise be paying for rent and utilities. Of course having a home would be nice, but at this stage in my life its not the most important thing to me. I'd rather save that money over a course of a few years and then buy one, instead of wasting it on rent. The PO box is a great ideal as well, I just never knew how it worked.

its tough to sell stuff, due to time, when your out there. i would get a head start as soon as possible. like i have a second car and its been a huge pita to try to get rid of when im not around.

i keep all my junk/cars at my parents house. free is the best way to go. some people like to use a hotel, i really dont have a problem being in the truck every day...once i got used to truck stop showers hahaha.

    Why be a Truck driver!

Only make less than $40000.00 per year.
Be on the road per weeks at the time.
Deal with a lot of paper work, DOT log book, quantum dispatcher, DM, CHP, etc
Seating on no where for hours maybe days waiting for load or break down.
Eating on the road all the time.
    Bad sleeping condition.
No social life beside the truck stop lizards.
Driving all over going places but not knowing those places beside warehouses and terminals or what ever I see on the freeways.

Maybe I just want to go away from reality be nomad and call the open road home.
Yes home is what you want to be.

Yes and when you have to sit all weekend instead of WHINING / CRYIN about it to anyone who will listen at the truckstops , get out and see the area you are in.

Take in a few sports , go to a museum , go for a walk , play a round of golf.

I did more during SIT and wait weekends than my neighbour ever did being at home all the time.

Luckily, I have the best of both worlds. I have a brother and thats who's address I use. Also have a place downstairs that I can stay at when I do HT. What little stuff I have left is in stg. Sure a stg place costs but look at all the money your saving by not paying rent or utilities. Least, thats the way I look at it.

That's great info and I'll check on that. But won't I have to change my driver's license to that state? And then vehicle registration and insurance too? Or is it ok to pay taxes in one state and be a resident (driver id) in another?
