Me smelling a little corporate spin here.
-
This takes me back to what I like to say often... and in general use...
"if everyone, no matter your role, did their part... we'd all do better"
I watch people at work (I'm a CDL student currently) slack off and then blame "the man" when things go wrong.
I'm not too good to carry a GPS, use my radio, phone and common sense to get where I'm going.
I'm striving for a good relationship with whatever company I drive for... especially my dispatcher.
I also believe in "call and echo". It's just nice to get a copy on the radio or over the computer so you don't feel like you have to wonder wether or not anyone gets your messages.
Anyway. I'm scheduled to graduate at the end of June... about a week shy of my 31st birthday. I'm hoping this will be a great Summer for me.
Thanks for the great thread and read!! -
Werner's road breakdown department will contact the repair facility and make the repair and payment arrangements, this can take a couple hours or so, depends on how busy road breakdown is.
Thermo King or Carrier for the APU, if the truck or trailer needs service he should be stopped at a TA or Petro truck stop. (macro 24)
Your bf should have a card or sheet with a list of macro's on it. If he is paying "out of pocket" for oil, washer fluid, light replacements etc., then he is not requesting reimbursement through the indicated macro (macro 41).
It's the same thing for motel rooms, truck wash etc.. have him send macro 41 for reimbursement.
PS, If you ain't turnin', you ain't earnin'. So if your bf is not being paid for down time at the terminal he should be sending qualcomm messages to his dispatcher requesting breakdown pay. It's not much put it helps and only applies after about 24 hours.Last edited: Apr 14, 2011

# Smaggs
Just a quick word on GPS devices, they are an electronic map and help with your routing.
You MUST be smarter than the GPS unit, it is a tool and is NOT perfect (what is?). Used in tandem with the Road Atlas (you DO have a road atlas I'm hoping) it does make things easier.
Top of the line right now is the Rand McNally 5100 and IF you buy one, take it home, plug it into your computer and register it and download ALL updates for the map, it may take a while but trust me it's worth it.
That being said, it falls upon the driver to make the final decision on where you are going and what to do.Last edited: Apr 14, 2011

I whole-heartedly agree. GPS is excellent as an add-on to an atlas. I always check my map and confirm the GPS is accurate before trusting it. I read an atlas and I actually use Google Maps when I can to look at the bird's eye view of where my destination is. I have a really good photographic memory, too.
While GPS, google maps, and atlases are all good tools in combination... common sense beats all.
