Isn't it amazing the things we see on the highway? Yes, ladies driving while talking on the cell phone, fixing their make up and no clue as to where they are.

Then there is always someone trying to catch up on the stock market or latest gossip column article. But the one I get a kick out of is the big rid driver that takes his eyes off the highway to reach back and get his coffee pot or a package of snacks while going down the boulevard at 70+ miles per hour.

It takes a professional. (or perhaps a lot of luck sometimes, don't it?):biggrin_25523:

Man I think It takes a tooon of luck . My personal pet peeve is people who sliiide acroos 4 lanes of traffic to get in front of you and slam on their brakes. When I already had just enough room to stop safely. This last happend to me in Memphis, I had 3 coils on loaded suicide, and I had to lock it up and hit the shoulder to avoid running this person over. So many things could have gone wrong there. The chains could have broke, sending the coils through the cab. I could have got it crossed up and lost coils in the highway. Rolled it. Anything could happen. All because someone decided they needed to be in that tiny hole in stopping traffic 3 lanes away. Know what I mean?

My daddy always told me Eisenhower built the interstates especially for the truckers, so when you're on there with the truckers you show them some respect and try to stay out of their way. And yes, he was a trucker.

    Brickwall Thanks this.

If ####### braindead ignorant four wheelers would learn to merge correctly or take "Hooked on phonics" and learn what "Yield"means then there wouldn't be any problems.Traffic would flow smoothly. Why don't four wheelers just stay off the interstaes all together. Most of them are just "Idiots out wandering aimlessly" anyway. The interstates were designed for " Interstate Commerce" meaning " TRUCKS ONLY". Do your window shopping and joy riding on the back roads,or better yet "Stay Home".

Or as my uncle says...'out for a walk and took their car'. :biggrin_25523:
All of us also drive 4wheelers and have been guilty of a poor manuever at some point, but I agree. There is no excuse for the way the majority of people drive.

After driving the big truck for 7 days, I get in my little Chevy Corvalier (poor man's corvette!) and drive from Phx back to home in Tucson! (bout 2 hr drive). It is like night & day between being a trucker and a 4-whlr on busy interstates trying to make time!! My attitude changes very quickly---in fact, I see more 'dumb' things done by truckers while in my pers vehicle than I do when OTR!! There is NO correct answer---it's all relative!!:biggrin_2551:

Amen to that! I tell ya, I DREAD driving around trucks in my four-wheeler now as I KNOW what they have been through and how things are. You never know, maybe that driver was taking an hour to pass a Swift truck at one mph faster and the Swift truck didn't have the common courtesy to back off a second to let him go by and get over...then the driver in the middle is fuming and says "screw it, I'll stay here now". Let's just say, our freeways are a DISASTER anymore. The MOST dangerous, road-raged truckers out there are the ones with governed trucks at 62, 63, 64, 65 and so on and they can't pass anyone fast...it is one of the most frustrating things on the road today. Make no mistake, it WILL get much worse. Simply put a trucker, in America, is a 3rd class citizen and it is hard to deal with for any man/woman.

yeah, I love driving the 'big truck,' but the rest of the trucking industry is at best tolerable!! I'm within 13 mos. of being able to retire, but wanted to run 'Casual' at that point----but the industry has changed so much in the 8 yrs that I've been driving, that I dont know it I will go casual!! It's a real trade-off on driving 1wk/mo during good weather vs. getting out! That decision is up to each & every individual driver! I really dont know what else that I would do if I had to make a living other than driving---$50K+/yr no problem if you wanted to put in the time!! LIFE IS A TRADE-OFF!:yes2557:

It has been said that driving truck is 90% luck and 10% skill. That rings true today with all the heavy traffic, mixed with Cell Phones and people having lunch driving down the road. Likewise all those with alcohol and drug problems.

Yep! It is pure luck just to across town anymore, let alone cross country.:biggrin_25523:
