I'm not trying to be a troll and I'm an American myself, but why is it that so many Americans give European trucks a bad rap? I usually hear comments like "They're gay, They're ugly, They're garbage, They're cheaply made" and so on. I use to not like European trucks, but after traveling to Europe all these years, I am starting to like them. The only Euro trucks I don't like are those long hood trucks Scania makes. Other than that, I like most of the Euro COE's. At least Euro trucks are ahead in technology and safety. They have disc brakes, synchronized transmissions, better automatic transmissions that doesn't waste more fuel, etc.
Any of you Americans like Euro trucks?
Here's the Scania I'm talking about:

Why do so many Americans hate European trucks?

Because they are ugly, they are cheap plastic crap, and by buying them your just sending more american money over seas.
Real American's Buy American!
American TruckerStonehjl, Captain Mudsocks, JudiC and 14 others Thank this. -
UGLY!!!
The only people who drive a cabover are usually forced to do so. Don't let anyone fool you, if they didn't have such cramped streets over there they wouldn't drive the short ugly things either. If they like them, great! I mean there are people from other countries who eat bugs and dogs and love those also.
If you want a big truck with an Allison automatic, disk brakes, air bags ect get out your checkbook and order one. All that is available here.Captain Mudsocks, snowman_w900, UnixNerd and 5 others Thank this. -
you mean like in your century? me i think euros are better built then us trucks but there are drawbacks to good things and btw, half of the us trucks are now coming from Mexico with parts made in China. i would rather buy a Volvo made in Sweden and assembled in the US, then a Shaker made in Mexico/China
joshuapowell61, RoadRanger^^, Elroythekid and 10 others Thank this. -
Where in da heck am I supposed to SLEEP!???!? I don't need a big 72" sleeper, but get real. I'm 6'2, I need SOME space to stretch out.
jt road hammer, bigblue19 and Skunk_Truck_2590 Thank this. -
my Century is a plastic POS yes, but it is an American Built Truck (was built before Freightliner moved all there crap to Mexico "with the exception of the Mt. Holly, NC plant which ony builds trucks for Coke")
And I do not own it, so like people that are forced to drive COE's i'm forced to drive what we have....
American TruckerDominick253 Thanks this. -
My Volvo was built, as most are, in Virginia, not Sweden. And an American Cummins engine, but a lot of the Volvo powertrain is also made in Hagerstown, MD.
But the jist of the dislikes are from completely different applications. You might love the lawn tractor you have, but it is not going to make the grade if you need to work 1000 acres. It's the same thing with European Vs. American trucks, the scale of miles run, the confines of cities, and the rules of the highways are definitely like comparing apples and oranges.Captain Mudsocks, Oxbow, homeskillet and 3 others Thank this. -
Imani100, Transporter77, atkins79 and 1 other person Thank this.

Real American's Buy American!
Too bad NOTHING is still solely built in AMERICA other than VOLVO / MACK
cabwrecker and Sr.Spartan Thank this. -
