Probably true. -
I really wish we had more family members of truckers posting as well as dispatchers, planners, brokers, safety personnel, dot officers, company presidents, ata officers as well as truck drivers. We need more discussion with more people and not less. Meltom talked about drivers turning down loads for no good reason and I understand the frustration. As an owner operator I know dispatch wants me to take short loads to hold down on the deadhead, however if I take a 100 mile load that has me sitting for half a day to pick up and then takes six hours to deliver I'm losing my shirt. I might be able to do that once in a while, more than two or three of those in a week and I'll go in the hole. This is where dispatch has to understand things from my side of the quallcom. For those who think planning is easy go to Landstar's free load board and try planning your truck sometime. You will find it's not an easy job. So, why would I get on here and rip dispatch? Because they are supposed to be professionals and it is their job to keep my job moving. I take less money for the sake of having someone fulltime planning this truck to allow me to make money and get home. Yes, I am demanding on myself as well.
Meltom Thanks this. -

In that crash, a 6 week old infant was killed along with 3 other kids and 3 adults. -
At the risk of being accused of derailing this thread, my heart goes out to everyone involved in that accident. I have only the details from Landline on xm radio. Sounds like the van hit a deer and then the truck rear-ended the van. I can't imagine what that driver is going through right now. The only cautionary suggestion I would give any driver is make sure you leave plenty of following distance, you never know when something like this can happen in front of you. I was rear-ended a couple of months ago when I had to stop suddenly for a sofa in the middle of my lane on the highway. It can happen so suddenly.

The other morning before sun up, cloudy, a little rain. I was headed East bound I-470 in MO right at the exit to E US 50 when the vehicle in front of me slams on its brakes and make it's way to the right shoulder. I begin with the brakes, and as soon as the car in front of me moves, I see a mini van dead in the right lane, no lights what so ever, just sitting there not moving. So I move into the shoulder to avoid hitting this vehicle that is sitting still. As I go past it, a man is walking around the back of this dead van. With cars careening by him at 65 mph, slamming on the brakes and swerving around him, he's walking around his vehicle. I'm thinking WTF is this guy doing.
