Still sitting over at the guy's house. I got spark to it, the ignition control module was shot. Then the brand new fuel pump that he'd put on it some time before it broke down on him and parked it would pump fuel through it, but not up the line to the carb. So I happened to have an old electric that was on my caddy until a mechanic took it off and somehow transformed itself from a $120 Holley into a $30 Purolater while it was sitting in the box in the trunk for 3 years (grr) that I used to bypass the mechanical pump on the LTD. Now it gets fuel, fired up and ran pretty good for about 5 seconds till my roomate frantically motioned to cut it off. The carb has decided that it wants to be a fountain so it's shooting highly flammable fuel out the top and all over the engine.
So I located some used aftermarket 4 barrel intakes (it has a two barrel venturi on it) and made a deal to meet a lady tomorrow in town who has a nice aluminum Weiand dual plane for $50. I'm gonna pull the 600cfm Edelbrock off the caddy and put that on the LTD since it's not doing it any good to sit in the garage on a car that isn't driven. That should solve that problem. Now I just have to cross my fingers when I shift it into drive after doing all this work to get it running and hope the transmission works.
Still, I enjoy working on it and I don't think I got a bad deal. I took this bike that was collectin dust in the garage:
And traded for this car that had 71k original miles on it but needed a lot of work:
Then I traded that to a guy that was tired of tinkering with what he had and wanted something else to work on, and ended up with this:
Then I was thinking that these cars (mom used to have a newer one) ride a lot better on performance tires but the lower profile tires throw off the speedometer and this one doesn't have an OD so it would rev higher and get worse mileage. Unless...I put 16" wheels on it with lower profile performance tires but the overall diameter would be the same due to the taller wheel. Then the guy that bought my pickup randomly showed up at my house with a full set of 16" wheels, centercaps, and lugnuts off a ford ranger that not only had the same bolt pattern as the LTD, but he was willing to trade for an old Connex I had laying around.
Trading is fun. Now I just have to track down some 16" tires and the LTD will be well on its way from being a mushy semi luxury car to a nice mid sized sport coupe.

We're supposed to have a cold front roll through and break the heatwave for at least the next week. Mid 80's all next week so that'll be nice. Chance of rain, they say. I say moderate chance of heavy storms. They're already firing up across Ar, Ok, La, and Tx. They're all moving in the wrong direction too, southwest. You don't see that very often and it's never good.

wheathauler Thanks this.

Hauling more wheat next week and beyond. Due to construction had to do a lot of city driving yesterday... my ten speed about wore my arm out. Man I would have given a leg for a thirteen speed.

Very true. Haven't heard from you in a while. Highside. keeping busy?
-
Been busy since harvest...now I'm just trying to get on top of the fix it list. Trailers needing tires, tarp, etc. and trucks needing serviced and minor issues tended to has kept me purdy busy on the weekends for a while now. Working in the heat doesn't make it any more fun either.
Starting to be a serious situation with these fall crops drying up. Hope we see some rain soon. -
103 yesterday...105 today and 107 this weekend. I believe I live in the new death valley. Sure baking the fall crops... how are you guys in the east faring?
