i don't think it's a testosterone thing. If the company policy says no chains, then no chains it is. But driving on ice is a bit different than a snow covered pass. Plus chains are useful getting you out of a stuck situation.

Well I do commend you for it.Donners was the first mountain I drove over while in training and have'nt been back there since. My boyfriend is from Vegas and drove over Donner many times,he says this snow is nothing.Snowplows/snowblowers won't come out unless at least a foot of snow.Looks like alot to me.But then again im from Iowa so any amount of snow is bad.Had to drive it last week.

It doesn't matter the reason, joseph, they don't want the vehicle used in conditions that require chains. Getting out of a situation is where the pre-planning, being aware of conditions and routing come in. If unavoidable, shutdown ahead of the bad stuff and hunker down.

The testosterone is about the comments that have nothing to do with the OP 's question, but is more of an attempt to emasculate anyone not macho enough to do the dirty. You mention fear in your previous post. You assume it's fear. To others it's common sense, company policy, health reasons, age reasons, driver choice... it doesn't matter the reason that someone doesn't want to chain up, the comments maligning them for their choice is the problem.

True that. I chain up but that's just me. It's all good. I'm not required to, I just do.

PA & WV and parts of VA have some "hills" that will turn those western boys white as a ghost. Plus us East Coast guys run the 5 boroughs of NYC. The West? Meh. Its Beautiful out there with some wide open spaces, no doubt. But as for flatlanders? Ha hahahahaha

I know,right?:biggrin_2556: And THAT is what I've been trying to convey to anyone who's anybody in Dodge Center,MN for quite some time now. Is it OK if I copy&paste and send to his email?

    Let's see..A line E to Milwaukee,W to Sioux Falls, S to Des Moines,and I'm far enough N already so that's a done deal. O.K. then. I have this figured out..I'm just gonna stay home.!:biggrin_255: "Honey..Honey I'm home.No,No,No..I'm HOME to stay". Oh.Oh...I seem to have awakened the Beast.:biggrin_2556:

Its funny how every thinks there part of the country is the tough part, Bottom line the mountains are no big deal east or west, as far as NYC, I just do not want to deal with the tolls, I like our speed limits here in Utah, Arz, NM and Texas. Just no reason to run back there any longer.

As far as chains most who do not wish to run them have never been shown how to put them on, 30 minutes and were running, and your right there not the answer to everything. There just no big deal either way. Dont forget the rubber flatbed cord.

So if they say to stay stopped in the middle of the road, then he won't even head to the nearest T/S, which may be 30-45 miles away???

We don't carry chains or chain up. Simple reason, we never run freight in those areas anyways. 99% of our freight is El Paso to SoCal, Midwest, northeast and southeast and back.
