Doesn't NM, AZ, and CA all require chains in fall and winter months? Regardless of what part of the state you are in?

Anyway tbrown here is my simple take on it.
    1. Since your husband works for a company which does not allow them to chain;so be it. There are plenty out there who do not chain. IMO if no one is killed or maimed because of a decision on either side of this issue,it's all good.

    2. Although after 8 yrs in the Western11 I have never been asked by the DOT to show them my chains-for the last two years I have them neatly(?) in a trailer side-box -but they can ask anytime and if he doesn't have them he WILL receive a fine.

    3. It is a good idea to know how to chain as there are NO absolutes out there, and one never knows.

Ha ha, go for it. It gets pretty nasty in the NE, thankfully we know how to take care of it (Only in PA do we wait until it gets really bad, more fun that way I guess

Run I-40 eastbound where it breaks away from I-81. Up and over Black Mtn., NC in the Asheville area. Or years ago before I-77. Down thru Fancy Gap on US 52 VA into NC.

I know that the companies who haul explosives are not allowed to chain up unless it is to get them off the road and they must stop at the first place they can and shut down. Seems the government is afraid that the chains might spark and set the explosives off. It is funny to me...if your trailer floor is so bad that a spark could get through and set explosives off then that trailer shouldn't be on the road.

This is for Ralph: Taking me out of context huh? :biggrin_25526: I'm quite sure you know my remark is sarcasm aimed at a silly remark on your part. Just take a look at what the other posters have written...
