That is one of the big reasons I want to do flatbed. I enjoy hard work. Drop and hook is fine for people who never want to sweat and move. But I need physical labor. Too much time in the military I guess.

    roadlt Thanks this.

Me too, lol. In the ER screaming like a BEEATCH with kidney stones, pissed it out over night and headed to work a few hours later.

this thread is so hijacked I am lost . lol I welcome all the sidetalk though nothing like this existed when I was looking at Melton to come to work here, anyways trying to stay on track here is an update
emptied my second 450 mile shorthaul in wichita on Thursday morning and got a 7 day -3 stop- tarp load from Kansas to L.a. on monday, then up to Seattle on wednesday to unload the last bit. I Had had multi drops before but never like this , It should be less productive than just doing 2-3 other loads over the course of a week but its very interesting so I am glad to have it , plus I don't have to go get any loads for a whole week after picking this one up last thursday , it took 4/5 hours to get out of there when I picked it up and the Tarp looked PERFECT. ........then the 35-50 mph crosswind got a hold of it and popped out the back and ballooned the front so I had to pull over multiple times to fix it, I have had that happen before on a smaller scale but this is an odd shaped load and very hard to get the tarp to conform. It could be loaded different to look better but then it would be harder to unload , after about 1.5 hours over 3 different stops I called it a day and the tarp didnt need any tother attention the next 2 days at all. I am spending the night at my mom's and seeing one of my kids ( the other one is riding with me )and will be in L.A. tommorrow afternoon and the first leg will be over. Looking forward to the seattle weather and by the looks of my hours I will run out of my 70 and need a reset after I unload :biggrin_25525::biggrin_25525::biggrin_25525:.Funny thing is I am scheduled for hometime and could easily get this load repowered but that won't happen over my deadbody or at least without a total manfit at a truckstop on my cellphone !! So after a few days off in Seattle I will be heading back to phx for a few days off. Its been a good month

It's not really hard work if you have done manual labor before , but it is enough out of the truck stuff to keep you feeling balanced and enjoy your drive time and your load time. If it ever is " HARD " to do you may be missing some easy steps that make it a lot more manageable. Needless to say most of us do it the hard way before some old guy ( or lady for that matter ) make it look easy and get done in 1/2 the time it takes you.

I rolled a tarp out one day in the wind and watched it blow off my load 2 minutes later before I got down to bungee it and a guy came up to me and helped me after I rerolled it ,carried it up a ladder and rolled it back out ( I may or may not have said some swear words ), then we did his load , he threw 4 straps over the load and we pulled his from the ground over the top and down the other side ,he already had the first side bungeed to the trailer lol, made me sick how easy it was . He didnt say a word to me about doing it the hard way just thanked me for helping him pull it over.

by the way L.A. wasnt bad - it wasn't good either but I made it out without any scrapes. 2 drops 22 miles apart in 3.5 hours retarping each time , maybe would have been faster if they spoke english at the second drop but who cares it is california .. .. .. , on my way to seattle sitting in a hotel room in SAC. gunna git mi a-pew fixed tommorrow morning !!

    L. A. sucks all around anymore. Like the other posts, you have been more than helpful with your posts in my decision making. Still don't have my mind made up, but, 80% sold on Melton. Since I'm based here in Central Calif, I need to consider what i want to do if or when I get tired of OTR
