Company driver, little money saved, should I go lease?

I have not been a trucker driver for all too long of a time. Before I was driving, I was unemployed or in sales positions that didn't provide income and so I have some debt and just recently have started to rebuild my savings little by little. I am starting to consider becoming an Owner Operator. With myself being a company driver and making an OK per mile pay, would looking for a lease be a better way to go about becoming an O/O?

If you are talking about a lease purchase through the carrier that you are working for, the answer is most likely no.

Search the threads and you will see how many guys are working for nothing, literally. With most carriers, that is a bad, bad, bad road to go down.

Just save a little more while being a company driver. Learn the business a little more. The problem with leasing is your still a driver and that's how companies look at it. Me, Im a business man who drives a truck.

Nope, stick to what you are doing. Pay off ALL of your debt, and learn some more about this industry before you decide to jump off the deep end. Going in with NO safety vest is not advised

Since it seems the consensus answer is no, then how would I go about becoming an O/O on a company driver's salary? Got any tips there?

Not being negative, but to lease from the same people are a big no no..i drove for other people and learned alot about this industry over the years well before i brought my own truck..but the key is to HAVE PATIENTS..i would save my money up and then go by a truck outright CASH..i saved for years to do this but at the same time, learning from other owner ops and Trucking companies..2290,IFTA,FUEL,AUTHORITY IF U GO THAT ROUTE,OCCU INSURANCE,PRICES,TIRES,BREAKDOWNS,TAXES,TRYING TO FIND A GOOD COMPANY TO WORK WITH.Knowing wHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE TOCOVER EXPENSES N BILLS...so i wouldnt say DONT DO IT...but save up alot of MONEY..n continue to LEARN BEFORE YOU DO IT...HAVE A GREAT DAY WISH U DEE BEST

RajunCajun said it all. I am looking in from the outside and the drivers in here would know better --but i dont see much if any advantage to leasing.
Raven, if you are young and it says you have 0-1 yrs experience, let a company pay you to learn.
If you make poor money- jump ship after a year and look for a better paying company and save up for at least a few years.
In the meantime learn everything you can learn from the drivers in here and the O/O so when you have all the money you need and all the book knowledge you can absorb you will be coming at it with the best possible advantage.
By that time the trucking industry will have either improved or kept going in a downward spiral (from the money making side).
If your young you have time --if your 60 then i guess you better learn fast.
