Need some basic info on tmc

You're probably right, maybe that's how the newbies make the mistake in the first place, the are just following the trail

I do think they are a good company in the end though

 

I didnt see any thing written that didnt equal out to an average company probably not real bad or real good maybe with some exceptions --nothing that would strike them off of my list--but APU's or idle time is a must in a black truck.
If you strike all the companies that just seem to be consistently horrible --you are left with a crap shoot --"do you feel lucky punk" is a question you must ask yourself.

 

Hang-Man: In regards to the militaristic comment, it was related to a few reviews of the company by drivers or former drivers on indeed and truth about trucking. I've been searching around, just taking a look at what's out there as I prep to get out after 20 years. I'm sure I could find a local gig, but truthfully i'd like the experience of getting out OTR for a bit prior to buying my own. I like flat beds and don't mind the work that comes along with it. Figured I'd ask about what I've read and verify with guys on here.

The comments about the grass sounds about right if somebody is playing military. I remember hearing that all the time when I was a boot..."stay off the grass!"

 

The whole “Stay off the grass” thing is something Maverick is famous for, I’m not sure that I have heard anyone from TMC say it before this thread. I would not surprise me if TMC has the same policy as it does have a reputation for being a bit militaristic but I think some posters might be confusing the 2 companies and their policies.

 

I read a bunch if not all the threads on TMC and i an pretty sure they do the stay off the grass thing --i wouldn't know its just what i read, maybe all the companies use the grass as a test.
Same with militaristic, its just what others have mentioned i have no inside knowledge - but would recommend that the original poster left click on the word forums above , find "motor carriers the inside scoop" click on that and find TMC and read all the threads.

 

I have seen other posters post this for TMC but none of them seem to have ever worked for TMC. I have seen where an ex TNC driver posted that this was just a myth (see post #8 of the thread at http://www.thetruckersreport.com/tr...25640-start-orientation-tmc-30th-whos-me.html).

Can’t say I know for sure one way or the other though. I just assumed that posters were confusing Maverick with TMC after having reading the post I linked as the whole “stay off the grass” thing is something rather militaristic. Perhaps a current TMC driver could enlighten us.

 

I don't work there but a friend does, he said it directly to me, the whole stay off the grass thing, thought is as I posted earlier that if you can't follow directions when they are right there with you, how will you when you are alone? they are not looking for renegades, that's what we have our own authority for
They also would run him around the mountain the first few times out to make certain he could handle the truck under normal conditions before running him up the hill
As an O/O and being a business owner this makes sense, who of us would send a new driver in our $100k++ rig if the person couldn't even get to class on time???

 

That makes perfect sense GYPSY. I'd have to really know you and trust you before I let you get out on the road with my equipment, especially if it's 100k plus. That's why we see new equipment around the military that goes to junk in a heartbeat. Lots of young knuckle heads don't know how to take care of their stuff. "It's not mine, what do I care!" No accountability, lack of willingness to obey orders. Guess you better stay off the grass. OR, go buy your own equipment and go O/O...

 

Thanks, I always thought it was a clever means of seeing if a potential driver could follow simple instructions regardless of what company employed the practice.
