If you're looking to go new, Fitzgerald has some really nice gliders. Save some money and get a better truck. check them out. If I were buying new, this is where I'd get mine. http://www.fitzgeraldtrucksales.com/

We have bought 4 Coronado glider trucks, so far they have been good, the main reason for us was the Detroit pre emission motors, we didn't go with Fitzgerald for the simple reason you don't get a factory warranty, if you buy direct from Freightliner then you can easily get it worked on at any authorized Freightliner dealer. We buy ours from Western Carolina freightliner in NC. If you have any questions, will be more than glad to give you our experience.

I know many like the Coronado, but a Columbia or century class glider will give you better mpg and is lighter.

I heard one driver getting 9.45 mpg on his Coronado glider. The trailer he pulled had fairings.

The odds are that you will use that warranty too, on a new from factory truck. The Fitzgerald trucks come with a 3/300,000 mile warranty on engine and rears. Trans a 3 year unlimited mileage warranty and a 100,000 mile warranty on everything else. No emissions, the odds are you will be better off, breakdown wise, than a brand new factory truck. Just my opinion but I believe a lot of drivers will agree.

And he would do even better in a more aerodynamic truck. Simple physics, the Columbia is more aerodynamic. If a Coronado and Columbia have exact same specs (tires, trans, engine, diffs, etc.) the aerodynamics and weight reduction will help. How much? Maybe .25-.5 mpg depending on usage. But even if its only .1 mpg....Over the life of the truck thats a lot of saved money in fuel.

    Stephen,

What kind of MPG are you getting in the gliders vs. the new Volvos?
