that is what I was thinking too he seems like a really cool guy and he seems to know a lot
HE may have --but just might have been before the 30 minute break rule --and he might not really understand it himself.

OH NO, i didnt mean to imply to ignore the 11hr drive time or the 14 hr clock --Thats just a given !
I meant to just start the 8hr time keeping after every break of 30 minutes or more (sleeper or off duty) --am i wrong in that thinking ? I figure as long as anyone does that {30minutes or more (off duty or sleeper) constitutes a break -and, or can start the 8hr time period count down again.
I was trying to leave as many clocks as i could out of it --other than 30 minutes or more or and 8 hrs or less.
Crap --i thought i did a good simple job of explaining it --i will take another look or delete post.

I guess i am just making things more confusing.
It's easy to go over the 14 hour clock if a driver doesn't keep tabs on it. Load time, inspections, fueling, and several other non-driving delays can distract from the overall 14 hour window that we have to keep up with.

11/14 hour violations are two of the biggest logbook issues.

Evil Teddy --i am glad you caught that --i edited maybe that will help !
Its just one of those things thats really easy once you get it -- but explaining it makes it seem more confusing.

They need to toss the log rules and start over again -- with a truck driver as the author !

As a new driver at the typical new driver carrier, the eLog will make sure you don't forget [or neglect] to do this break. If you do, you can be sure you will get a note in your mailbox next month explaining what you did wrong. The 30 minute break rule is not a matter of opinion or a suggestion, it is now and has been a matter of federal law in the typical driving application where logging is required.

I do sincerely hope this particular "instructor" is NOT an example of the typical instructor today. If so, this might explain quite a lot in regard to other matters I won't go into here.
